Alexander Volkanovski, Giga Chikadze

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski thinks Giga Chikadze got a big wake-up call in his loss to Calvin Kattar at UFC Vegas 46.

Volkanovski is set to defend his featherweight title against ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung at UFC 273. He was originally supposed to face Max Holloway in a trilogy, but Holloway pulled out with an injury just days after the fight was officially announced and booked.

After Holloway pulled out, Chikadze was one of the first featherweights who volunteered to step up on short notice. But, Chikadze was already booked against Kattar, and the UFC moved on to Jung as a replacement.

This created quite the response from Chikadze, who became hostile in a series of tweets with Volkanovski for allegedly passing him up. Chikadze would go on to lose in a lopsided bout to Kattar via unanimous decision.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Volkanovski criticized Chikadze for his performance and how he handled the featherweight title debacle.

“I think [UFC Vegas 46] was a big eye-opener for Giga,” Volkanovski said. “That, mate, [against] good guys, you can’t just rely on a kick. You know, the Giga kick. It just shows you, you nullify his Giga kick and he ends up being a punching bag. Again just, man, that’s why you’ve got to fight these contenders. Fight all the top guys, guys that are going to mix it up. See where you are before you start facing the champ. You could imagine when you talk about making adjustments, game planning, cardio, all these tools that I have — mate, I would have made him look really, really bad. You could imagine.”

Alexander Volkanovski, Giga Chikadze Went Back And Forth On Social Media Recently

Despite the loss to Kattar, Chikadze is still considered one of the top prospects in the featherweight division. While his loss to Kattar is a setback, he could get back in the thick of things with another streak.

The beef between Chikadze and Volkanovski could appear to just be getting started. These two could potentially meet in the Octagon in the future if everything falls into place.

Do you think we’ll ever see Alexander Volkanovski vs. Giga Chikadze? Who wins?

For the better part of a year, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champ-champ Henry Cejudo has been calling for the promotion to give him a chance to win his third title in as many divisions by facing Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski.

His campaigning intensified over the last two weeks after Max Holloway was forced out of his scheduled trilogy title fight against Volkanovski, leaving a slot open for a willing contender to step in.

In the end, Chan Sung Jung was given the chance to fight for the strap, which will now take place at UFC 273 on April 9, 2022, leaving many other contenders upset, Cejudo included. But if you ask “The Great,” giving Cejudo — who has been retired for a year and a half now — a title shot in a division he’s never competed in never made sense.

To top it off, the promotion never once mentioned “Triple C” as a viable option.

“Look mate, the UFC never brought up his name, ever. It was never mentioned to me and it was never even close to an option,” said Volkanovski on a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “So how am I going to take it serious of the UFC don’t take it serious?

“I like Henry Cejudo, he’s got great skills. You’ve done great things in other division’s And you’re retired, so it just didn’t make any sense,” he added. “I don’t mind the guy. He is a good guy and I have heard a couple of his interviews, he’s got the skills and gameplans and I have got respect for Henry. But, yeah there no sense wasting much energy on him.”

UFC president Dana White has shot down Cejudo’s pleas repeatedly, sharing Volkanovksi’s sentiment that awarding him a title fight in a new weight class after such a lengthy layoff simply didn’t line up with the promotion’s vision.

In the midst of it all, Cejudo somehow dragged Conor McGregor into the mix which prompted “Notorious” to fire back and start and all out Twitter war between two of UFC’s former double champions.

For future reference, Volkanovski doesn’t rule out ever fighting Cejudo down the line, as long as the timing and financial aspects of it is right.

Check out the fight card and current bout order for UFC 270 in Anaheim, CA.

It’s the first PPV fight week of 2022!

UFC 270 takes place on January 22nd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and there are two championship fights topping this card. In the main event, heavyweight king Francis Ngannou puts his title on the line against interim champion and former teammate Ciryl Gane. The co-main event is new men’s flyweight champion Brandon Moreno, who will undoubtedly have a lot of fans backing him for his trilogy fight with Deiveson Figueiredo. Their first fight ended in a draw, the second one saw Moreno beat Figueiredo to become champ, will we get a different ending in the third meeting?

The bout order might be tweaked a bit due to several recent cancellations, and at the moment there’s not even a fifth main card fight after the scrapping of Greg Hardy vs. Sergey Spivac. In all likelihood that will change soon, but right now you just cross your fingers we don’t lose more fights.

Here’s the fight card right now:

MMA fighter Marcus Davis, who recently made his MMA return at Premier FC 32, allegedly didn’t get paid for his first-round finish in November.

The 48-year-old Davis, who was a mainstay in the UFC’s welterweight division between 2006 and 2010, had made his return to the cage after a seven-year absence. Despite being long past his physical prime, Davis looked like he hadn’t missed a second of the action as he submitted Stephen Stengel in minutes.

But Davis isn’t happy with the way he’s been treated in the days and weeks since his return. In a recent thread on Facebook, the MMA fighter accused Premier FC of failing to pay him for his win for circumstances outside of his control.

“Zero, been two months, haven’t paid me 1 cent,” Davis said when asked if he’d been paid. “They ghosted me for the past 25 days. I reached out to them today to let them know I was going public. Only to have the CEO threaten me with an attorney if I spoke out. The claim is they took on an investor that after his check cleared the bank, the fed froze the account because the investor had ties to terrorism.”

During his time with the UFC, Davis had fought some of the best at 170 pounds, including Nate Diaz at UFC 118. He also earned wins over the likes of Chris Lytle and Paul Kelly in the Octagon.

The promotion has yet to respond to Davis’ comments and it’s unclear if he’ll ultimately be compensated for his latest victory.

You can view Davis’ first-round victory at the Premier FC 32 event below via Marcus Davis’ YouTube channel.

What is your reaction to these wild allegations of an MMA promotion failing to pay a fighter due to an investor being tied to terrorism?

Khamzat Chimaev, Gilbert Burns

Khamzat Chimaev is not only interested in a fight with former title challenger Gilbert Burns, he wants to make a statement to the rest of the welterweight division.

Chimaev most recently put on another dominant performance against Li Jingliang at UFC 267 and is still awaiting his next opponent in the Octagon. He’s anticipating a return to the UFC sometime in the first quarter of 2022.

One name that has come up as Chimaev’s next possible opponent is Burns, who most recently defeated Stephen Thompson at UFC 264. He has yet to fight since and is looking to get a second shot at the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

During a recent segment on his YouTube channel, Chimaev not only picked a place for the potential Burns fight but also made a big prediction for the matchup.

Khamzat Chimaev Calls His Shot Against Gilbert Burns

“Everybody is talking about me, but nobody wants to fight with me because we kill everybody,” Chimaev said on his YouTube channel. “For me, it doesn’t matter. Gilbert Burns talked about Brazil. I’m more Brazilian than him because my coach is Brazilian. I’m a blue belt under Alan ‘Finfou’ (Nascimento). I know many times my coach smashed (Burns), too, on the mats.

“We are going to choke him out. A ‘Finfou’ blue belt against a black belt. I like this guy, actually. He’s a funny, nice guy. I want to fight with him. But in war, brother, I can’t be nice with somebody. I want to eat everybody. Take my money. Take my belt. I’m so hungry. When I talk about fighters, I’m hungry.”

Usman is most likely set to make his next title defense against Leon Edwards later this year. Depending on how that fight plays out, the winner of a Burns/Chimaev fight could potentially get the next title shot.

Chimaev has title ambitions and is a superstar in the making for the UFC. If he wants to get to the title, Burns seems like the best matchup to make that happen. The two have them have verbally agreed to a fight on April 9.

Mike Tyson Jake Paul

If you’re interested in seeing a boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, don’t get too excited.

The boxing legend recently took to social media to deny reports of a potential fight between them. Tyson took to Twitter on Monday in response to a report, stating that he didn’t even know about this matchup. He also claimed he recently saw Paul in person and that discussions of a fight didn’t come up.

“This is [fight] new to me,” said Tyson on social media. “I saw Jake in St. Barths and he never mentioned it.”

Tyson was replying to a report released earlier today by The Sun Online that stated Tyson and Paul had verbally agreed to fight

Jake Paul is coming off an active 2021 campaign. First, he knocked out Ben Askren in April before fighting Tyron Woodley twice before the close of the year. First, he defeated Woodley via split decision in August. Then, he knocked out the former UFC champion on December 18.

Earlier boxing appearances saw him knock out former NBA player Nate Robinson in November 2020 and another KO win over YouTuber AnEsonGib in January of the same year.

Tyson, a former heavyweight prizefighter with a decorated record, last fought as a pro in 2005. However, he made his return to action in 2020, fighting fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition contest. The fight didn’t count towards either fighter’s pro records, but was scored a draw after eight rounds of action.

After the fight, Tyson mentioned his plans to keep his fighting career going.

Tyson, now 55 years old, is best recognized for his run as a heavyweight champion in the 1980s and 1990s.
