Chael Sonnen isn’t happy with Paddy Pimblett after the UFC prospect accused him of clickbait surrounding the recent Donald Cerrone fight rumors.

Pimblett dominated his UFC debut in 2021 against Luigi Vendramini, surviving an early barrage to earn a first-round knockout. It was quite the coming-out party for Pimblett, who was arguably the biggest signing by the promotion in the calendar year.

During a recent podcast appearance with Michael Bisping, Pimblett shut down talks of fighting Cerrone next and called out Sonnen for pushing a false narrative. Pimblett is expected to compete on the upcoming UFC London card.

After getting word of Pimblett’s comments, Sonnen didn’t respond with kind intentions in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Is Paddy secretly one stupid son of a bi**h?” Sonnen said. “Paddy woke up, took stupid pills, and goes on Michael Bisping’s show. On Michael’s show, Paddy accuses me of using his name for clickbait. I’d never do it and I’m also irritated that Paddy thinks his name is big enough that I would clickbait him. That might sound arrogant but that’s the truth. It pissed me off. Three weeks ago, I was sitting with Cerrone. He asked me what weight Paddy is. I had beautiful things to say about him. As I’m having this conversation, Cowboy’s texting Sean Shelby saying does Paddy have an opponent. I asked him, ‘Can I talk about this? He said, ‘Yes.’ So that’s what we did.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

Paddy Pimblett Downplayed Chael Sonnen’s Claim That He’s Fighting Donald Cerrone Next

Sonnen has never been one to hold back what he thinks. During his career in the UFC, he was known as one of the best promoters in MMA with his brash personality and ability to build up a fight. He has taken these talents into his new career venture in broadcasting.

It’s clear that Pimblett’s comments irked Sonnen, and it’ll be interesting to see if these two can bury the hatchet and move forward into the new year.

Gregor Gillespie recently went scorched earth on Tony Ferguson during a rant on Instagram, slamming the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim lightweight champion for refusing to fight him.

According to “The Gift,” the fight has been offered to “El Cucuy” numerous times but has been declined on every occasion. That’s why the wrestling standout wasn’t thrilled at all when he saw Ferguson calling for a fight against Michael Chandler.

But perhaps what stings a bit more for Gillespie is the fact that Ferguson added “It’s wrestling season,” to his callout. Because if it’s a wrestling showdown he wants, then “The Gift” is the right man for the job since he has an actual win over Chandler in the department.

“Dude I just got word again from my manager that Tony Ferguson will not accept the fight against me, bro. And then I see you online calling out fucking Michael Chandler, saying it’s wrestling season, bro,” he said.

“Dude, you understand, like, I’m the wrestler, bro. I beat the shit out of Mike Chandler in college and I’ll fuck you up in wrestling too. If you’re looking for the wrestler, bro, accept the fight, dude.”

“I need to start climbing and none of you guys seem to want to fucking fight. Tony, me and you are fucking available dude. We’ve been available since the same fucking one weekend apart,” he added. “It’s time. Let’s just fucking do it. Calling fucking Chandler out for the fucking wrestling season. Get the fuck out of here, bro. I’m the wrestler.”

Gillespie and Chandler did in fact meet on the wrestling mats in the NCAA tournament in 2009 which saw “The Gift” defeat the former Bellator MMA lightweight champion at 157 pounds with a score of 10-2.

Ferguson, meanwhile, has been on quite a slump, losing his last three fights to Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, and Beneil Dariush. His last win came against Donald Cerrone in 2019. As for Chandler, he is currently on a two-fight losing streak and was last seen taking part in a memorable fight against Gaethje at UFC 268.

As for Gregor, he currently has an impressive 14-1 record in mixed martial arts (MMA), which includes a 7-1 record inside the Octagon with his lone loss coming at the hands of Kevin Leee via knockout.

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing all three of those men face off against one another at some point inside the Octagon, but if you had the power to make one of those fights next, which would it be?

Derrick Lewis is looking for a fight that means something both to himself and his fans.

Derrick Lewis is one of the best fighters in the heavyweight division. Although he has never won a UFC title, Lewis has been a mainstay in the top five for many years. Now that his title aspirations might be dimming, Lewis is looking to make a different kind of impact in the division and in his career. Lewis has an idea that excited him for his next Octagon appearance, and he believed it will excite fight fans as well.

“This last fight helped me,” Lewis told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about his loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC 265. “It was a big experience difference and I just wanted to finally go into a fight week and not put pressure on myself, and it felt great. I plan on doing that for the rest of my career—just go out there and have fun.

“I feel like I don’t have to prove anything and that’s one of the reasons why I want to fight Stipe next. I believe that would be a great matchup for the fans and for both of us. He’s more of a wrestler, and I’m more of a wrestler, too. So it would be a great, entertaining fight.”

Lewis’s last time out was against Chris Daukaus in December. That matchup got Lewis back in the win column following his interim title shot loss to Gane. The loss to Gane was the only blemish on Lewis’s resume in that past six fights. Without the belt around his waist, Lewis is ready for a fresh face next.

“I’ve fought just about everyone in the division in the top-10. It’d be a new face, new blood, and I believe I’d be a heavy underdog in this fight,” he said. “I can get my fans their money back from the Gane fight.”

Lewis’s target of Miocic has not been reciprocated at this point. Miocic’s last outing was back in March when he lost his title to Francis Ngannou. Miocic has mentioned waiting on another shot at the belt, but he may be open to a fight in the meantime, and Lewis could be a good option.

What do you think of the hypothetical matchup between Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis?

Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor

It’s still unclear if Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will compete in the Octagon again, but their competitive fire remains as potent as ever.

Poirier defeated McGregor in back-to-back fights in 2021, although the trilogy was a bit controversial. McGregor lost the fight due to a doctor’s stoppage after snapping his leg in the first round.

The bad blood between the two lightweights continued into the post-fight interviews, and their hostility for one another appears to just be getting started.

But, during a recent post on his Twitter, Poirier revealed he intends to rival McGregor not only in the cage but also in the whiskey business. He announced the launch of his brand new product; Rare Stash Bourbon in a video.

“What’s up man, I just want to say thank you to all my fans across the world, thank you for the love and support over the years,” Poirier said. “I’m excited to introduce you guys to my Rare Stash, check it out.”

Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor To Compete In Whiskey Business

As of right now, Poirier’s new whiskey is available in 18 U.S. states and costs $100 for a 750ml bottle. His new brand will also sell merchandise such as hats and t-shirts on the company’s website.

Poirier is fresh off his loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 and seems to be entertaining a fight with Nate Diaz for his return. Meanwhile, McGregor is planning on a return to the Octagon this summer after a long rehab from his leg injury.

McGregor’s Proper 12 whiskey has been a huge success in the alcohol market, and he ended up selling a majority stake in the whiskey for a reported 106 million euros.

Poirier and McGregor could fight a fourth time in 2022, and the whiskey topic will more than likely be added to the discussion.

Jake Paul

The polarizing YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul has offered his services to the UFC and Dana White at a discounted price if certain demands are met.

Paul is fresh off his sixth-round knockout over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley to wrap up his meteoric rise in 2021. He earned back-to-back wins over Woodley along with a first-round knockout over another UFC fighter, Ben Askren.

Paul and White have gone back-and-forth on social media for months, each issuing various challenges to one another. Paul has expressed interest in eventually transitioning to MMA later on, and specifically signing a one-fight deal to compete on the highest platform in the UFC.

During a recent tweet, Paul offered to sign with the promotion for just $50,000 if White and the promotion offers benefits to their fighters.

The Jake Paul, Dana White Feud Continues

“5 days have passed & while I’ve agreed to be tested, Dana has vanished like Casper,” Paul said. “Dana: my 1 fight deal, I will fight for $50K, the new min. You make millions off of me & all of UFC fighters benefit from the new min, rev share, and healthcare.”

Paul has called on the UFC, and more specifically White, to treat its roster better. The social media personality has agreed to be randomly tested for steroids if the UFC and White agree to increase fighter pay and provide additional healthcare benefits.

White and others have accused Paul of using performance-enhancing drugs since the beginning of the year, and their beef has turned more personal in recent weeks. Last year, Paul went as far as threatening to assault White if the two ran into each other in Las Vegas.

It’s unclear if either side will formally agree to some sort of a deal, but it’s clear that the White/Paul saga doesn’t have an end in sight.

What are your thoughts on the ongoing Jake Paul, Dana White beef?

UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman is doing his part to help the rise of MMA in his native Africa.

Kamaru Usman is arguably the most well-rounded fighter in the UFC at this time. He tops the UFC’s Pound-For-Pound list and has not lost a fight in eight years. Not only is he the total package inside the Octagon, but he is also a great advocate for the sport outside the Octagon. Since becoming UFC champion, Usman has been pushing for a surge of MMA in his native Africa. Now, he has inspired a new MMA promotion to be held in Lagos.

According to The Cable, 54, a new mixed martial arts promotion, will be holding it’s first event. Usman will be involved in this event and has even begun promoting it on his social media.

This event is being billed as the first of a series of “Premiere MMA” events. This event will feature five fighters from Nigeria and five athletes from other parts of Africa.

“54 announces the first-ever face-off fight night in Africa’s most-populated city, Lagos as it brings mixed martial art fighters to slug it out in a bid to leave an impeccable MMA imprint in Nigeria and by extension, the African continent,” a press release stated.

Usman and his other fellow African champions, Francis Ngannou, and Israel Adesanya have been campaigning hard for the growth of the sport within Africa as a whole. They have all been pushing to start promotions like this one, help with training, and give other resources to the people of Africa. Usman and Ngannou have also been pushing for the UFC to hold an event there in the future.

The first “54” event will take place at 8 pm at the Lagos Continental Hotel on January 7, 2022. There is no information on how to watch the event at this time.
