Perhaps for the first time ever, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are (kind of) on the same team.

UFC megastars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz have been fierce rivals for the last six years and counting. With one win apiece over each other, the two men will trade shots on social media every chance they get.

But on Saturday night after UFC 269, they seemed to have found a rare moment where they were both on the same page. The common denominator: Dustin Poirier.

The first one to fire shots was Diaz, who always has something to say during these big events. The 36-year-old veteran posted this tweet moments after the headliner between Poirier and Charles Oliveira ended.

“The Notorious” then wrote this response, saying how it was an “embarrassing night” for “The Diamond.”

McGregor Diaz vs. Poirier

Diaz and McGregor have a shared history with Poirier. The former was matched up with the ex-interim champ for UFC 230 in 2018, but Poirier had to pull out due to injury. Diaz had been holding that incident over Poirier’s head ever since.

McGregor, of course, has his three fights with Poirier, the last two of which he lost.

Poirier failed to capture UFC undisputed gold for the second time and lost in the exact same fashion. He says he plans to take less frequent fights after UFC 269, win, lose or draw.

UFC President Dana White said Amanda Nunes vs. Kayla Harrison was worth millions, but after “Lioness” lost to Julianna Pena at UFC 269, it’s now worth zero.

Julianna Pena did what Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg, and Holly Holm failed to do.

She beat (and finished) Amanda Nunes, widely considered the greatest female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in history. Pena’s bookie-busting upset — which cost some idiot $318,000 — will undoubtedly lead to an immediate rematch between “Lioness” and the “Venezuelan Vixen,” perhaps at some point in early-to-mid 2022.

It also torpedoed any chance of Nunes fighting Kayla Harrison, according to UFC President Dana White.

The undefeated PFL lightweight champion, who also competes at 145 pounds, was cageside for the UFC 269 pay-per-view (PPV) event last Sat. night (Dec. 11, 2021) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the cameras made it a point to get the two-time Olympic gold medalist on screen in the moments before the Nunes vs. Pena co-main event.

It was all for naught.

“These are those things man, for like a Kayla Harrison, the Amanda Nunes fight was huge,” White told reporters at the UFC 269 press conference. “If they would have faced off it would have been a massive, mega-million dollar fight. If Amanda Nunes had won tonight, the Kayla Harrison fight would have been one of the biggest fights you would have ever seen.”

Which is why Harrison was screaming “FUUUUCK!” after the fight (see the video below):

Harrison, 31, became a free agent after the 2021 PFL championships, where she steamrolled the overmatched Taylor Guardado. There was talk leading up to UFC 269 that Harrison would sign with UFC and challenge Nunes inside the Octagon after her fight, operating under the assumption that “Lioness” — a bloated -1000 favorite — would cruise to victory.

Instead she was tired out, beat up, and forced into submission.

Nunes was two-division champion and retains her 145-pound strap, but White told reporters that a bantamweight rematch was first order of business. That said, an exact timeline has yet to be determined. The good news is that UFC officials are “still talking” to Harrison about a potential partnership in 2022, though PFL and Bellator MMA are still in the running.

PFL is familiar ground while Bellator MMA has Cris Cyborg.

There is no pressure for Nunes to defend her 145-pound title, simply because UFC does not have a featherweight division, which is why the Top 15 remains blank during every rankings update. That gives “Lioness” time to settle her unfinished business at 135 pounds and perhaps rebuild her mystique for a future Harrison fight, assuming the 12-0 judoka finds her way into UFC at some point early next year.

Conor McGregor

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor took the chance to mock his old rival, Dustin Poirier for his loss against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269.

McGregor is currently planning a return to the UFC in 2022, as he continues to recover from the devastating leg injury he suffered against Poirier at UFC 264. He’s remained active on social media, blasting his rivals including Poirier in recent weeks and months.

McGregor was paying close attention to the UFC lightweight title fight as he gets ready for his return. He’s already stated that he expects an immediate title shot when he comes back to the octagon.

McGregor took the time to blast Poirier for his performance as he was submitted in the third round.

Conor McGregor Wants Another Shot At Dustin Poirier

McGregor and Poirier could be on a collision course once again after Poirier’s loss. A fourth fight between the two seems to be in the cards after their controversial finish at UFC 264.

The McGregor vs. Poirier trilogy was stopped abruptly when McGregor shattered his leg near the end of the first round. Before that, he suffered some hard ground-and-pound damage but also had some positive moments on the feet.

McGregor has been recently called out by lightweight contender Michael Chandler for a fight in his return, and there seems to be mutual interest from both sides. But, Poirier has also said recently that his beef with McGregor will never end and that he expects another battle between the two.

For Poirier, it’s unclear what could be next for him in the UFC. He has recently hinted at a possible move to 170 pounds in the future and that could be next for him. But, the fourth fight with McGregor could also be enticing given the amount of money he would make from it.

UFC 269 featured two title fights that crowned a new queen of the women’s bantamweight division and a current champion proved himself as worthy of holding the title he won earlier this year.

There was a lot to take away from UFC 269, here are some things that stood out.

O’Malley vs. Garbrandt?

During the pre-fight press conference, Sean O’Malley and Cody Garbrandt went after each other, even though they both had their own fights with other people at UFC 269 to worry about. Still, O’Malley seemed to think it would be a good idea for them to square up at the press conference for a future event. Is this something you want to see?

Lost One

Alex Perez

It happens enough these days, bookmakers should start laying odds on what fight will get pulled from a card, and for what reason. After the weigh-ins, the UFC announced that the flyweight bout between Matt Schnell and Alex Perez was canceled due to medical issues with Schnell.

The Savage Gets Back in The Win Column

Gillian Robertson was on a two-fight losing streak going into UFC 269. If that wasn’t enough fuel to pick up a win, her opponent Priscila Cachoeira missed weight and they fought at a catchweight. Robertson scored the first submission and finish of the night to get back in the win column and did it with Cachoeira fighting dirty. Losers never win, and Robertson proved that here. Check out Robertson’s submission finish and doing it while Cahcoeira was poking her in the eye.

Kai-Kara France

France stopped Garbrandt in his tracks for Garbrandt’s flyweight debut, leaving questions for Garbrandt’s future but opening doors for France. With his first-round finish of the former bantamweight champion, France made it known he has his eyes on Brandon Moreno and Deivison Figueredo. Either fight would make a great future match-up for him.

Dominick Cruz

Cruz made news for his criticism of Daniel Cormier’s broadcast style on fight week and that may have taken away from the fact that regardless of how anyone handles a mic, Cruz can still manage the cage better. It’s obvious he does just as much homework for fights as he does for his broadcast duties. Cruz fought and won against a very tough Pedro Munhoz to pick up a decisive victory. If there’s a fight to make, maybe he and Jose Aldo could headline a card in 2022.

And New!

A huge underdog, Julianna Peña came in with nothing but heart and a great jab that would hand Nunes the loss that would cost her the title, and crown The Venezuelan Vixen the new bantamweight champion. Peña was a +650 underdog and when the going got tough, Peña’s resolve would be the fuel that won her the title.

And Still!

UFC 269 results: Charles Oliveira taps Dustin Poirier to retain title

Diamonds are tough but “Do Bronx” is tougher as Charles Oliveira proved that he can stand with the tougher, more damaging fighter the likes of Dustin Poirier. Oliveira’s chin was definitely tested in this fight, especially in round one but if there were a physical demonstration of “being like water,” Oliveira definitely did it to Poirier when he scored the submission victory.

There’s obviously more to take away from this event than what is listed here especially with it being the last one of 2021. New challengers for various titles, up-and-coming fighters looking to get in the top 15, and potential rematches to make. The UFC certainly closed their pay-per-view schedule well.

What did you take away from the event? Better yet, what would you like to see in 2022?

Sean O’Malley Thinks Daniel Cormier Wants Him To Lose: ‘I Remind Him Of A Young Jon Jones’

Sean O’Malley takes a shot at Daniel Cormier, claiming he wants to see O’Malley lose.

‘Sugar’ had another extremely impressive win over Raulian Paiva at UFC 269. He defeated Paiva via a first round TKO and finished it off with his patented ‘Sugar fadeaway’ jump shot after securing the win. The young phenoms stock continues to rise as he keeps running through the competition. Paiva was a step up in competition for the ‘Suga Show’, but he disposed of him easily while showing off his stand up skills both, offensively and defensively.

O’Malley seems to think that announcer and former two division champ Daniel Cormier wants him to lose when he steps in the octagon.

Sean O’Malley had this to say about ‘DC’ in a post fight interview

“I’ve always felt like ‘DC’ wants me to lose, I just, I don’t know I could be completely wrong. I just sat down with him the other day and it’s not like he doesn’t like me personally, I just feel like he kinda’ wants to see me lose. I don’t know what it is, if I remind him of a young Jon Jones, but uh for some reason I feel like he wants me to lose with certain things he says when he’s commentating.”

O’Malley went on to say that commentating the fights is a really hard job and he even acknowledged that he may be taking it to heart, or in his words “being a P*ssy”.

Cormier had come under fire earlier this week by Dominick Cruz as well. Cruz stated that ‘DC’ doesn’t do his homework and because of that, he listens to the broadcast on mute when he calls fights. Cormier ended up winning ‘Personality of the Year’ at the World MMA Awards this year, and dedicated his win to Cruz.

Do you think Sean O’Malley has a point about ‘DC’?
