Daniel Cormier

Amid all the debate, former UFC champion turned broadcast analyst Daniel Cormier has listed his Top 5 UFC boxers of all time.

Cormier is a prominent voice among MMA circles as one of the most well-known voices of the UFC. He is a fixture of UFC pay-per-view and Fight Night events and also hosts a series of programs on ESPN.

His show with ESPN commentator Ryan Clark has become an instant hit with UFC fans. Previously, he hosted a show with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani before Helwani left the network to go independent.

During a recent episode of ‘DC &RC’, Cormier listed his top five boxers in UFC history, and the top of the list may be perplexing for most fans.

1. James Toney

2. Max Holloway

3. Petr Yan

4. Conor McGregor

5. Junior Dos Santos

Daniel Cormier Picked James Toney, Not Max Holloway, As UFC’s Best Boxer Of All Time

Cormier put former UFC heavyweight and world boxing champion James Toney at the top of his list; over former UFC champions Max Holloway and Petr Yan.

While Toney is highly regarded as one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time, his UFC tenure left a lot to be desired. He signed for one fight in the UFC at UFC 118 against Randy Couture and was submitted just minutes into the bout.

Cormier often likes to poke fun at his good friend Holloway, but this may be the biggest shot by the former light heavyweight and heavyweight UFC champ. Many fans were also stunned to know that fighters such as Dustin Poirier and Leon Edwards weren’t considered for the list.

The ‘best boxer in the UFC’ conversation rages on, and Cormier’s list is sure to add fuel to the fire to the debate. His list is sure to create all kinds of debate within the MMA community as a whole.

Jack Shore has had a change in Nurmagomedovs as Said is switched out for Umar in a March 19th bantamweight showdown.

Another member of the Nurmagomedov clan returns to action in early 2022.

Umar Nurmagomedov, cousin to former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, will put his 13-0 record on the line against 15-0 Welsh fighter Jack Shore on March 19th. The fight was first confirmed by Alex Behunin of Cageside Press.

Shore is currently 4-0 in the UFC while Nurmagomedov has only managed to step into the Octagon once since signing with the promotion in February of 2020. That fight — a second round rear naked choke win over Sergey Morozov in January of 2021 — was impressive enough to put Umar on the ever growing list of Dagestani UFC fighters to watch.

Shore was originally supposed to face Said Nurmagomedov before an injury took him off the card. And just to clarify, Said is not related to Khabib. But Umar is. It can get a little bit confusing keeping all these Nurmagomedovs and their relations straight.

The March 19th card doesn’t have an official designation or location yet, but there are reports that the UFC is hoping to hold the event in the United Kingdom, a first since the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled a March 2020 showdown between Tyron Woodley and Leon Edwards at the 02 Arena in London.

Bantamweight Ketlen Vieira is eager to take on former champion Miesha Tate at UFC Vegas 43, and hopes a victory will put her straight into the title hunt.

After five years under the UFC banner, bantamweight Ketlen Vieira has finally accomplished the dream of headlining a card for the world’s largest MMA promotion—and against a former champion, to boot. Paired up against Miesha Tate atop UFC Vegas 43, the Brazilian feels honored to be in the biggest bout of the night and hopes to put on an impressive performance.

In an interview with Combate, Vieira said that a win over ‘Cupcake’ could be crucial to put herself back into title contention. Although she knows it will be no easy job, Nova União Manaus fighter claims to be ready for any threats Tate might pose.

“To be in the main event is a dream come true. Who would’ve guessed that he daughter of a riverfolk couple from Amazonas would be in the biggest event in the world, fighting a former champion in Las Vegas?” Vieira enthused. “I’m really excited about this opportunity and grateful for being able to represent our people. I’m very excited. I trained hard and I’m really focused. I’m sure that victory will be ours come Saturday.”

“This is an extremely important fight for me,” she added. “I believe God has given me this opportunity, I have a lot of faith in that. God’s plans are perfect. He put me here to do the main event and I’m happy and grateful. But I’m not confusing being happy with thinking this will be an easy fight. I’m happy for the opportunity to be here and do my job. If I win this fight, I can start dreaming about the belt again, because Miesha is a big name. She’s a former champion and a win over her could put me close to the belt.”

Although Vieira and Tate have similar fighting styles, with both women relying more on their grappling than striking, the Brazilian claims to be ready for a potential standup battle. No matter where the fight ends up, Vieira feels prepared to take compete anywhere in order to score the win.

“I think Miesha’s style is similar to mine, she’s a grappler. I think it’s going to be a great fight that could take place entirely on the mat or on the feet. That could happen when two grapplers face each other. What I can say is that I’m ready for any kind of situation. I trained a lot of grappling, striking, takedowns. It was a very thorough camp.”

In her last outing, Vieira (11-2) dropped a unanimous decision to Yana Kunitskaya, back in February. The defeat came right after the 30-year-old’s most recent win, a unanimous decision victory against Sijara Eubanks, in September 2020.

UFC Vegas 43 is set to take place at the Apex facility in Las Vegas, NV. Aside from the women’s bantamweight headliner, the card is expected to feature a top ranked welterweight bout between former TUF winner Michael Chiesa and unbeaten rising contender Sean Brady.

After nearly crashing through two police cruisers in rural Niagara, MMA fighter Emilio Scott lead police on a high-speed chase that has resulted in 14-months behind bars.

The harrowing incident occurred in Oct. of 2019 at Concession 3 and Abingdon Avenue out of West Lincoln, Ontario, Canada. The West Lincoln Niagara Regional Police were in the area to investigate an unrelated matter before Scott sporadically whizzed between them in a stolen vehicle.

At speeds topping 93-miles/hr, the court files allege Emilio Scott attempted to maneuver between two patrol vehicles that were parked in the intersection. Before Scott made contact, the two police cars took evasive action as to not be hit. After the incident took place, police pursued the vehicle until the MMA fighter lost control and crashed into a ditch.

“Perhaps most aggravating is the fact that clearly at that intersection, police were stationed on the road, out of their cars, and Mr. Scott comes flying through an intersection without due care and attention,” Assistant Crown attorney Greg Smith said.

“The fact that nobody got killed or hurt is a blessing, given the circumstances. He endangered the lives of a number of individuals.” Greg Smith shared.

Emilio Scott appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Wednesday by video from Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Center. In addition to being banned from driving for 3-years, the MMA fighter was convicted of flight from police and possession of property obtained by crime.

Defense lawyer Gurinder Gill explained that his client (Scott) was previously addicted to fentanyl which has nearly ruined his fighting career. The judge insists that Scott put everyone involved at risk. Emilio Scott was under the influence of drugs when the crime occurred and appears to have a lengthy criminal history.

Do you believe 14-months in jail is appropriate given the crimes that were committed by Emilio Scott?

Henry Cejudo is a former two division champ and olympic gold medalist, but all those accomplishments may take a backseat to becoming a father.

Cejudo and his fiancee Ana Karolina have welcomed the birth of their daughter, America Maria Cejudo.

“At 4:26am, God brought our beautiful America to this world,” Cejudo posted to his Instagram “It’s a very surreal feeling and responsibly that we have as parents. To learn from the good of our upbringing and that of what we missed too. We promise to love, encourage, discipline and to have a relationship with you my baby America. Mommy and Daddy wants to welcome you to this beautiful world.”

Henry Cejudo is one of the most accomplished athletes in combat sports history

‘Triple C’ finished his career on a six fight win streak which consisted of beating Demetrious Johnson while he was still at the peak of his career. Many MMA fans and analysts considered Johnson to be the best fighter in the UFC at the time and possibly the greatest fighter of all time.

He also defended that championship against TJ Dillashaw who was moving down to “put and end” to the flyweight division. Cejudo was one of the most well rounded fighters of this era. Cejudo has since gone on to training other fighters in his retirement. He was training Weili Zhang for her title fight against Rose Namajunas. He is also training Deiveson Figueiredo for his rematch against Brandon Moreno for the flyweight championship.

Cejudo has also recently been in the gym with Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and working on getting him back inside the octagon in the near future. Daniel Cormier had some choice words when he saw Cejudo training with Jones, but then Cejudo decided to fire a few back at ‘DC’

Congratulations to Cejudo and his fiancee on the birth of a wonderful baby girl.

Francis Ngannou

UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou has his first title defense coming up against interim champ Ciryl Gane and is training with one of the best strikers in the world to prepare for the challenge.

Ngannou is training with Glory Kickboxing heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven down at Xtreme Couture MMA Gym.

Bringing in top global talent is nothing new for top-tier MMA gyms such as Xtreme Couture. Ngannou is preparing for what could be a tough test on the feet against the crafty Gane.

Check out Ngannou and Verhoeven training together below.

Francis Ngannou And Rico Verhoeven Are Two Of The Top Heavyweights In The World Today

Ngannou earned the UFC heavyweight title by knocking out Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. Before that, he had won four fights in a row by knockout after suffering disappointing losses to Miocic and Derrick Lewis.

Ngannou is probably garnering a lot of knowledge from Verhoeven, who was originally supposed to fight Ngannou’s former opponent, Alistair Overeem, and a recent Glory kickboxing event. Overeem pulled out of the fight with an injury and Verhoeven ended up knocking out Jamal Ben Saddik in their trilogy.

Ngannou and Verhoeven are regarded as two of the most feared men in combat sports today. Both men usually put on a show when they’re in the cage, and often put on knockout performances against their opponents.

Verhoeven has a record of 59-10 in professional kickboxing and hasn’t lost a single fight since 2015. Ngannou isn’t just a striker but has also shown off improved grappling, as evidenced in his most recent win over Miocic.

It’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever get the chance to see Verhoeven and Ngannou go to battle in either kickboxing or MMA, but nothing is impossible. For now, it’s nice to see two of the best heavyweights in the world teaming up and making each other better.

What is your prediction for Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane at UFC 270?
