Muay Thai legend Saenchai spoke in depth and critiqued Conor McGregor’s kickboxing skills.

Saenchai, who is considered as one of the greatest Muay Thai champions of this era, spoke in depth about UFC star Conor McGregor. While he was complimentary of his boxing and athleticism, he did critique the Irishman’s kicking technique.

“He’s pretty quick and agile. He’s got pretty good hands. His punches are hard and accurate,” Saenchai said in his native language (HT: MMA Mania). “His kicks are not that great. His kicks are just quick and his hands are the real weapon.”

“The timing of his punches are good. His counter punching is really good, he can really do damage with his counter punching,” he said. “Yeah, his kicking is pretty weak.”

The 4-division Lumpinee Stadium champion went on to say that he believes Dos Anjos seems to be the more complete striker, saying that “the only thing McGregor is better at is his punching speed and accuracy.”

McGregor has been critical of most MMA fighters, saying their traditional striking and their movement are all basic, flat-footed and stiff. The UFC champ has moved away from that mold, incorporating more unorthodox karate-style kicks in his repertoire on the past couple of years, but Saenchai doesn’t seem to be too impressed.

“If he were to fight a real Muay Thai fighter, who has both speed and power, then he would have no chance of winning,” Saenchai said. “He can’t beat ‘Thai’ Muay Thai.”

“The people who he’s fought may have trained Muay Thai, but have never really fought on a professional Muay Thai circuit,” he argued. “His opponents may have trained Muay Thai in preparation for their fights with him, but they’re not considered authentic Muay Thai fighters, like myself.”

When asked how he’d stack up against McGregor standing up, he unsurprisingly bets on himself on that hypothetical encounter.

“Well, bring it on. I would win,” he said with a laugh. “I would definitely win. If he were to stand and trade with me I wouldn’t have to do much. I would just teep and kick. I would just have to block or evade his punches. I would not worry about his kicking at all. My kicking is way better. If he and I were to fight, McGregor couldn’t beat me. 100%.”

Obviously that bout isn’t likely to ever happen, and although Saenchai himself is still active, he is already at the tail end of his career. Saenchai may ‘just’ be 35, but he is far older in Thai standards, having the extensive mileage of competing in over 350 professional bouts.

Saenchai, who has held titles in six weight divisions, revealed that he is likely heading to train with Georges St-Pierre and Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym next.

McGregor: Dos Anjos and Edgar both broke their ‘vagina’, I couldn’t believe the odds

Conor McGregor took shots at Rafael dos Anjos, Frankie Edgar, and Jose Aldo during the UFC 196 press conference.

During the UFC 196 pre-fight press conference, Conor McGregor took shots at Rafael dos Anjos for pulling out of the fight, and to both Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo for not accepting the contest once it was offered to them.

“There were many options, but in reality, many people pretended to want this fight until the fight actually presented itself,” McGregor said.

“Frankie didn’t want to shut up, but then when he was given a phone call and a date, then he hasn’t been seen or heard since,” he said. “Jose also! Jose was in camp, apparently preparing in case Dos Anjos pulls out, then all of a sudden Dos Anjos pulls out with his bruised foot, and Jose is not fit!”

“They always pull. They always run,” McGregor said. “They always make out like they want it, but really they don’t want it. I was expecting it.”

Aldo went on record to say he would be willing to step in at any time to face McGregor, until news broke of Dos Anjos’ injury and his coach said that Jose wouldn’t be ready. Edgar has been clamoring for the fight as well, but couldn’t accept it due to a reported groin injury.

“They all have sore vaginas lately, it’s crazy,” McGregor said. “There’s something going on, I don’t know. Dos Anjos broke his foot and his vagina in the same damn day. Same with Edgar. I couldn’t believe the odds of that to happen.”

“Everyone wanted it, then everyone didn’t want it. At least Nate was engaging in the conversation, everyone else flat out went running. Instantly he became the front runner.”

McGregor also took repeated shots at Dos Anjos, who recently posted a photo of his swollen foot.

“I looked at the picture that Dos Anjos put up and it’s a bruise,” McGregor said. “I heard ice works wonders.”

“Dos Anjos has a bruise on his foot. Did you see it? It’s a bruise! Ice. Ibuprofen. If I jumped under an X-ray, the doctor would slap me and say, ‘What are you doing kid? Get out of here, stop this.'”

When asked if he was possibly looking at Dos Anjos at UFC 200, McGregor said pulling out of this one may change those plans.

“It’s hard to commit to Dos Anjos again,” he said. “The same with Jose, he pulled. It took him two gos to build up the courage. Hopefully maybe it could take Dos Anjos two gos to build up the courage. But when you pull out with an injury like that, a bruise on the foot, there’s not much I can do to help you, to bring you back into the mix. It does change a little bit.”

Video: Man tries to rob pharmacy, gets KO’d by boxing champ next to him

Watch what happens when a man tries to rob a pharmacy while next to a customer who happens to be a boxing champ.

Earlier in the month, a man tried to rob a Florida Walgreens. Unfortunately for him, the customer on the next counter was David West, who is reportedly a two-time state boxing champion.

“He jumped up onto the counter, demanding all of their Oxycodone 30 milligram,” the police officer said about the incident. “Normally, I would say don’t get involved, especially when there is a weapon they can see, but apparently the citizen didn’t see or feel he had a weapon.”

Shortly after demanding for the meds, West foiled the robbery and knocked him out. According to news reports, West then held him down until the police arrived.

“I really wasn’t trying to hurt anybody,” West told ABC13 TV. “I was just trying to do what was right. I was protecting the one I love. I told him I hope he uses this as a turning point in his life.”

The robber was brought to the hospital, then charged for attempted robbery. Watch the security footage on the clip above.

Stephen Thompson makes case for title shot: I’d put on a better show than any of them!

Despite rumors of a different match up, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is still hoping his big win against Hendricks nets him a title shot.

Stephen Thompson is coming off the biggest win of his career, knocking out former UFC champion Johny Hendricks in just a little over 3 minutes. Before handing Hendricks the first stoppage loss of his career, Wonderboy was seen adding to his highlight reel by landing not one but two spinning hook kicks to KO Jake Ellenberger.

Thompson is currently on a media tour in Manila, promoting the UFC and kicking off their newly minted partnership with local media giants TV5 and Cignal TV. Despite rumors linking him to a possible bout against Rory MacDonald, this is where the Karate expert made his case to be next in line for the belt.

“He was the former welterweight champ, the number 2 guy ranked in the world,” Thompson said about his big win over Hendricks. “After I defeated him, I’m ranked number 3 now. Hopefully I get a title shot. We don’t know yet, but that’s in the works right now. Hopefully I get that shot, but if not, I’ll fight anybody who they put in front of me.”

So why should he receive the next title shot over guys like Woodley, Condit, or Maia? While the the 33-year-old did admit that he thought Condit won against Lawler, he believes his impressive 6-fight win streak isn’t the only thing going for him here.

“(The next title shot) really depends on what the fans want to see, in my eyes, to be honest,” he said. “I think I would definitely put on a better show than any one of those guys.”

“I understand that they promised Tyron Woodley a fight, but he’s obviously not staying active,” Thompson continued. “That’s what people want to see. They want to see those who are active, and they want to see a knockout. They want to see an exciting show, and I can do that for them.”

Not only does he feel like he has done enough to earn the next crack at the belt, he believes he has the perfect skill set to take it.

“I developed a style, of course coming from a karate background, the movement — It’s just not smart to bang with those tough guys,” he continued. “If you look at Lawler, if you look at Condit, those guys are pretty much banged up after each fight.”

“As a fighter, my goal is not to get hit, and to frustrate opponents. So the way I move, in and out, side to side, picking my opponents apart, it’s very frustrating,” he explained. “And if I know I got you frustrated… I got you, I can finish.”

Thompson will spending this week in the Philippines, doing media tours which is highlighted by a public workout on Thursday. If past appearances from numerous UFC fighters such as GustafssonCondit, and Munoz are any indication, you can expect thousands of Filipino fight fans to come out in droves again.
