Body Fortress ‘Gym Motivation’ Twitter Contest: And the Winners Are…

(Every gym needs its own Lakitu.)

Thanks to everyone who entered our Body Fortress “Gym Motivation” contest last month! To be honest, only three people actually entered, but thanks to everyone who at least considered entering. After going through the submissions, we’ve made our decisions. The two runners-up — who will receive one container of Body Fortress Super NOS Blast and a hydrator bottle — are Bernie Mucitelli (LOL!) and Dr. Choe (cute kid!).

And the grand prize winner — who wins one container of Body Fortress Creatine HCL, one container of Body Fortress Super NOS Blast, one container of Body Fortress Whey Isolate, one container of Body Fortress Glutamine, and a hydrator bottle, whew! — is this bit of tough love from Cookie Monster:

Words to live by. We’ll get in touch with y’all on twitter shortly. Thanks again for playing, and please visit BodyFortress.com for the latest and greatest in high-performance workout supplements!

Johny Hendricks vs. Matt Brown Booked for UFC 185; Thatch vs. Thomson to Headline UFC Fight Night 60

(via UFCNews)

Johny Hendricks will look to bounce back from his title fight loss to Robbie Lawler when he faces off against tough bastard Matt Brown at UFC 185: Pettis vs. Dos Anjos (March 14th, Dallas). The UFC announced the booking today, which comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that the original plan was to book Hendricks vs. Lawler III.

However, Brown recently found himself without an opponent when Tarec Saffiedine withdrew from their UFC Fight Night 60 bout due to a groin injury. Plus, some dudes on twitter told Dana White that they weren’t interested in seeing a Hendricks/Lawler rubber match so soon, and the idea was scrapped.

The UFC’s change of plans presents some good news and some bad news. The good news is, UFC 185 is getting stacked. Right now, it looks like this:

Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael Dos Anjos (for UFC lightweight title)
– Johny Hendricks vs. Matt Brown (for intercontinental welterweight dip-spit king)
Alistair Overeem vs. Roy Nelson (for PRIDE Neva Die freak-show heavyweight belt)
Henry Cejudo vs. Chris Cariaso (for flyweight…ah screw it, you know Cejudo’s going to pull out of this one for “personal reasons“)
Sergio Pettis’s return to flyweight against Ryan Benoit (possible FOX Sports 1 featured prelim??)

So yeah, pretty good so far. The bad news is…

So yeah, pretty good so far. The bad news is, now that Matt Brown won’t be competing at UFC Fight Night 60, a welterweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Brandon Thatch will now serve as the main event (?!) of the February 14th card in Broomfield. Thompson is on a four-fight win streak, and most recently won a decision against Patrick Cote on the UFC 178 prelims in September. Thatch is 2-0 in the UFC, and is coming off his brutalization of Paulo Thiago back in November; all 11 of Thatch’s pro wins have come by first-round stoppage, with six of those wins coming in the first minute.

Make no mistake, Thompson vs. Thatch is a great matchup, and has the potential for beautiful, beautiful violence. But when Thompson vs. Thatch is the most high-profile fight on your card, blah blah something something oversaturation, you see where I’m going with this.

Hot Potato: Meet Summer Daniels, Bellator’s New Ring Girl ‘Direction’ [15 Photos]

Last month, we shed a tear at the news that Bellator had cut ties with beloved ring girl Jade Bryce, who explained that the promotion has “chosen to go in a different direction for the new year.” Well, today we learned what that “direction” was. Bellator has announced that model/singer Summer Daniels has been hired as the new ring girl for Bellator, and she’ll be making her debut this Friday at Bellator 132: Pitbull vs. Straus in Temecula, CA.

Summer’s biggest claim to fame is that she’s the only woman to appear on the cover of Hustler without getting nude inside the magazine, which is a pretty impressive achievement, I guess. The Malibu-based model also has a lot of experience doing live promo and ring girl work, including gigs as a Monster Girl (with longtime Bellator babe Mercedes Terrell) and as a Corona Girl.

Check out 15 of our favorite Summer Daniels photos in the gallery after the jump, and follow her on Instagram and Twitter for lots more.

Jon Jones Leaves Drug Rehab Program After One Night. ONE NIGHT.

(Jon Jones’s mother Camille explains why she’s glad that her son tested positive for cocaine. Ugh. / Props: WBNG)

Look, I don’t think anybody expected Jon Jones to spend 30 days locked down with Dr. Drew in Pasadena after he announced his plan to enter a drug treatment program. But at the very least, we expected him to go through the motions, at least to keep up appearances, right?

Nah. According to this WBNG report (via MMAJunkie), Jones’s “stint in the rehab program lasted just one night,” but the UFC light-heavyweight champion is “continuing to get more educated on the subject.” Jones plans to attend Sunday’s AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, to support his brothers Chandler and Arthur.

It’s a bad look from from a PR perspective, especially in light of the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s brave decision yesterday to do absolutely nothing about its out-of-competition drug policy. Essentially, Jon Jones tests positive for cocaine, everybody in his life publicly applauds him, he suffers zero professional consequences, and his drug treatment turns into a home-study program after one night.

According to Jon Jones’s mother, Jon’s failed drug test was really a “blessing from God”:

According to Jon Jones’s mother, Jon’s failed drug test was really a “blessing from God”:

I’m glad that this happened to Jon, this stopped him in his tracks, this let him know that he may need to change some friends, you know, because everyone is not for you for the best,” said Camille Jones. “So this is a good thing as far as our family is concerned, so we wasn’t upset. Me and my husband considered it a blessing from God that our child was able to be helped and know that he need to stop and know that he needed the assistance to stop before it came to something worse.”

According to Camille, the unannounced drug test came the day after Jon was hanging with friends and “did something he shouldn’t have done.”

“When he tested positive, my first question was, do you have a problem, a serious problem?” Camille said. “And then he told me what happened. Jon is usually very honest with me, so he told me what happened. I was like, good for you….good. You needed to be caught, it was just timing.”

Those damned knucklehead friends of his are such bad influences! Oh, mom. According to CagePotato’s sources, Jon Jones is currently at home studying educational videos.

Henry Cejudo (Tentatively) Returns to Flyweight, Meets Chris Cariaso at UFC 185

After winning his UFC debut at bantamweight last month, Henry Cejudo has decided to throw caution to the wind and return to flyweight for his next bout. The 2008 Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist will meet former flyweight title challenger Chris Cariaso at UFC 185: Pettis vs. Dos Anjos (March 14th, Dallas), according to UFC officials.

The 125-pound limit has not been Cejudo’s friend during his budding MMA career. A series of blown weigh-ins and sudden fight withdrawals culminated in him pulling out of his originally scheduled UFC flyweight debut at UFC 177 due to a bad weight cut. The UFC agreed to give Cejudo another chance at bantamweight, and he won a decision over Dustin Kimura at UFC on FOX 13 in December.

Which begs the question: Why mess with a good thing? Why not see how far you can get at bantamweight before putting your career and health at risk once again chasing 125? From what we can gather, Cejudo’s TKO win over flyweight super-jobber Miguelito Marti at Gladiator Challenge: American Dream in May 2013 was the only time that Cejudo has ever successfully made 125 pounds in an MMA fight. And now he’s going to try again, God help him, while taking a gigantic step up in competition against one of the top ten flyweights in the world. What?

Anyway, Chris Cariaso hasn’t competed since being submitted by Demetrious Johnson in the main event of UFC 178 last September, snapping a three-fight win streak for “Kamikaze.” UFC 185 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight, and will also feature a heavyweight smash-up between Alistair Overeem and Roy Nelson.

UFC Cancels March 7th Fight Night Event Rumored for Windsor, Ontario

(Remember, this “schedule” is for entertainment purposes only.)

We’re just 12 days into 2015, and the UFC is already learning that announcing an entire year’s event schedule in advance is easier said than done. MMAJunkie passes along the word that the UFC Fight Night event slated for March 7th will not be taking place. The now-deceased card was expected to air on Fight Pass, and was rumored to be held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. No fights had been officially tied to the event. According to an official statement issued to MMAJunkie:

“While rumors of an event in Windsor had been circulating, this event was never officially confirmed or announced by UFC. UFC did consider holding a Canadian Fight Night event in March. However, the organization always strives to put on first-class events in every city, and this was proving to be a challenge within the required timeframe.”

If you look up there at the schedule, you’ll see that the March 7th date was the fifth in a string of back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back UFC events from February 14th to March 21st. Good Lord. I can’t imagine what the UFC matchmakers are going through trying to fill all these spots. However, our buddy Adam Martin suggests that there’s more to this story than simply an overloaded event schedule collapsing under its own weight:

It’s a sad state of affairs, but the OAC clearly doesn’t want anything to do with MMA these days. This Toronto Sun article from September gives a little more insight on why MMA isn’t flourishing in Ontario. Our condolences to all the fans out there.
