The long-awaited showdown between Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, Nick Diaz and KJ Noons will take place this Saturday, October 9th inside the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California and given the Jason “Mayhem” Miler/Diaz Brothers debacle that occurred live on CBS back in April, Strikeforce President Scott Coker is sparring no expense in hiring extra security. Forrest Griffin Vs. Rich Franklin on Superbowl Weekend

Yes a girl is writing this; ironically this same girl (me) cares very deeply about the exciting line up rumored to make up the UFC 127 event which will take place over Superbowl weekend. Light Heavyweights Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin may be gracing the already stacked card which will feature the Main Event Middleweight Championship battle between Vitor Belfort and titleholder Anderson Silva.

Also expected on the card is 2010 World MMA Awards Breakthrough Fighter nominee Jon Jones who will be facing off against Ryan Bader in a Light Heavyweight Top Contender battle.

Now how can you be more excited about football on Superbowl weekend? Do you even know who’s playing yet? Even Forrest Griffin “switched teams” from football to MMA after college…

Fighters Only 2010 World MMA Awards Nominees were announced and MMA Fix would like to point out the interesting note that AKA Coach Dave Camarillo was left out of the Coach of the Year category. Nominations were voted on by the public so why would YOU leave out a coach who has lead Jon Fitch into 5 straight wins, Josh Koscheck who is up for a Welterweight title shot against GSP, and Cain Velasquez, whose main event Heavyweight title fight against Brock Lesnar is one of the most anticipated bouts of the year?

You can place your votes for the finalists listed below at www.worldmmaawards.com. Polls are open until November 26th. Winners will be announced December 1st live inside The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV with host UFC Legend Randy Couture.

1060-1

WEC 51 Gamburyan Vs. Aldo goes live tonight from Broomfield, Colorado and is being widely regarded as one of the most stacked cards of the year.  One particular most anticipated fight on the line is the Featherweight bout between George Roop and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung.  What is most important about this fight is that Jung is coming in off a hard fought Split Decision loss to Leonard Garcia in a Fight of the Night bout most are considering to be Fight of the Year.  Roop’s last fight was also a Fight of the Night brawl against Garcia which ended in a controversial Draw that many say would have tipped in Roop’s favor had he not been deducted a point for a groin kick.  Though many expected Garcia and Roop to sign up for a rematch, Roop requested to fight Chan Sung Jung after his loss to Garcia.  When MMAFix asked Roop why he requested Jung he simply said, “because I want to be in the most exciting fights.”

Roop versus Jung has all the makings for excitement given their individual battles against Garcia and the matchup stylistically.  Both are well-rounded fighters and though George Roop has the height advantage standing at 6′1″ over Jung who is 5′7″, they both have a reach of 72″.   When asked by TheGarv how Jung would try to overcome Roop’s height advantage, Jung said, “I’ve been trying to get taller…”

Roop has told MMAFix that “The Zombie is going down like a blonde on prom night.” It’s good both fighters are keeping their sense of humor. Going into the cage tonight is about garnering a win but for the viewers at home, it’s also about getting to watch a good exciting fight and with Roop versus Jung, that’s exactly what we expect. Hey, it’s Thursday night, maybe Versus could steal a que from NBC and call this “Must See TV”.
