Ronda Rousey has been at the top of UFC news for the past few weeks. Dana White recently named her the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and informed UFC fans that she would defend her title for the first time in the main event of UFC 157 on February 23.
On a stacked card featuring huge UFC names like Urijah Faber, Josh Koscheck, Ivan Menjivar, Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson, some UFC fans are wondering if the women’s bout is worthy of a pay-per-view main event.
It is.
Rowdy Ronda Rousey is a monster and will take on a very formidable opponent in Liz “Girlrilla” Carmouche. Rousey will come into the bout with a 6-0-0 record to Carmouche‘s 7-2-0. They may not have the UFC experience of the men on the card, but they definitely deserve the main event at UFC 157.
Even if you don’t consider how talented these ladies are in the octagon, consider the historical aspect. This will be the first-ever women’s fight in UFC history. It’s the first fight of it’s kind at MMA‘s highest level and is more than worthy of the top spot on the card—most importantly, it’s for a UFC Championship belt.
The fight at UFC 157 will be a historic event for Dana White and the UFC—it could make or break a connection with an untapped UFC audience, females. If the fight goes well, other female fighters and fans may become more interested in the UFC’s product.
With two athletes like Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche, things can’t go wrong for the UFC as long as they put on a good show.
