Sergey Khandozhko made a memorable return to the Octagon earlier tonight (Sat., April 23, 2022) at UFC Vegas 52 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the Russian veteran stopped welterweight Dwight Grant with a second-round TKO (punches).

This was a wild fight from the opening bell. Grant came out explosive trying to throw Khandozhko off from his long layoff, but “Honda” was the one who scored the first knockdown. Grant responded with his own knockdown later into the first and ended up stealing the round with his offense.

In Round 2, the two welterweights kept swinging heavy leather and it was Khandozhko who landed a perfectly-timed left hook as Grant was moving to his right. Grant fell down and Khandozhko jumped on him for a collection of power punches and the eventual finish.

Khandozhko, 29, hasn’t fought since a decision loss to former UFC welterweight contender Rustam Khabilov. This was a good introduction back to the UFC for Khandozhko as he tries to remain healthy and work his way towards a ranked opponent.

Tyson Pedro returned to the Octagon after three years off earlier tonight (Sat., April 23, 2022) at UFC Vegas 52 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the light heavyweight contender scored a beautiful first-round knockout (leg kick and punches) over veteran Ike Villanueva.

Fight fans haven’t seen Pedro in a long time so they weren’t sure what to expect. What they found was a more patient striker who utilized range, front kicks, and feints to draw out shots from Villanueva. “Hurricane Ike” couldn’t help himself and plodded forward. Pedro kept hurting him with leg kicks along the cage and eventually put him down. That’s when Pedro jumped on top and landed three powerful right hands to force the referee’s hand.

Check out the final moments above courtesy of UFC/ESPN.

Pedro, 30, hasn’t competed since a TKO loss to Mauricio Rua back in Dec. 2018. Multiple knee surgeries have derailed Pedro’s light heavyweight career, but he now appears healthy and a completely more polished fighter. It shouldn’t take the Australian native too long to break into the top 15.

A heavyweight bout between Alexandr Romanov and Chase Sherman has been removed from UFC Vegas 52’s main card currently playing out live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The short-notice cancelation was announced during the UFC Vegas 52 broadcast. Sherman reportedly had to withdraw from the bout due to a “minor health issue,” which is a major blow to a card already desperate for star power.

Romanov, 31, was hoping to build on his undefeated record and score his fifth-straight UFC victory. The Moldovan heavyweight has looked deadly since his Octagon debut back in 2020 and looked to be in incredible shape for this weekend’s event in Las Vegas. A win over Sherman certainly would have launched Romanov into a top 15 matchup his next out but now he’ll need to wait.

Sherman, 32, is just 1-3 since returning to the promotion back in 2020. The former bare knuckle boxer was a heavy underdog for this short-notice fight and could have received his UFC pink slip if he was steamrolled by “King Kong.” It is unknown at this time if Sherman will get another opportunity to capture a UFC victory.

As a result of the heavyweight cancelation a middleweight clash between Jordan Wright and Marc-Andre Barriault has been promoted to the ESPN+ main card.

Video! Fury Announces ‘Hybrid Fight’ Alongside Ngannou

Tyson Fury may have retired following his devastating knockout win over Dillian Whyte earlier today (Sat., April 23, 2022) live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from London, England, but “Gypsy King” is already lining up a crossover fight with reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

Fury, who looked as good as ever during his homecoming victory over Whyte, was expecting to retire from boxing entering the heavyweight title fight. The now-former undefeated heavyweight champion was always on board to do a crossover fight, but fight fans didn’t know the wheels would start churning immediately after his retirement speech.

Fury was joined by Ngannou himself at the end of his post-fight interview and the two announced their plans for a “hybrid fight” inside of the boxing ring. The proposed matchup would consist of both fighters wearing MMA gloves and possibly some other unique rules.

Check out the post-fight madness below:

“He’s a great champion. He’s in great shape. Look at the muscles on him,” said Fury.

“We’re going to find out who is the baddest mother f—ker on the planet,” interjected Ngannou.

“This is going to be one very special fight like never before seen in the history of our sport,” Fury later added. “We’re not talking two light guys, 140 pounds. I’m 270 pounds, he’s 270 pounds. It’s going to be an explosive fight when it happens.”

“It’s going to be a hybrid fight with different type of rules,” further explained Ngannou. “MMA gloves in the ring to kind of mix up something a little different.”

It’s great to see Fury and Ngannou joining forces to stage one of the biggest combat clashes of all time, but there are a few factors currently stopping this “hybrid fight” from happening. The first one is Ngannou’s injured knee that he suffered prior to his title defense over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270. He’ll need to fully recover before trying to take out the best heavyweight boxer in the world. The second is the fact that even though Ngannou is currently not under contract with UFC he would have to vacate his heavyweight title if he were to jump over to boxing.

However, if UFC played ball they could stand to make a pretty penny by co-promoting the crossover spectacle, much like they did for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor.
