Israel Adesanya put an end to his rivalry with Robert Whittaker last night (Sat., Feb. 12, 2022) at UFC 271 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., when “Last Stylebender” outlasted Whittaker to the tune of a unanimous decision. It marks Adesanya’s fourth-straight defense of the UFC middleweight title.

Both middleweights landed whipping leg kicks in the early going. Adesanya did score a flash knockdown along the cage, but Whittaker was able to return to his feet. Adesanya kept things rolling in the second round as he displayed some sensational head movement and counter striking. However, Whittaker secured his first takedown of the fight and regained some momentum.

In the third, Adesanya kept the pressure up and started to wear on Whittaker, but “Bobby Knuckles” kept fighting back with takedown attempts and clinch work. Whittaker threatened with a standing rear-naked choke in the fourth round, but “Last Stylebender” powered through it and started on the attack again. Whittaker went back to his wrestling in the fifth as well as landing a few good shots in the clinch, but his efforts were simply too late. Adesanya did enough over the course of all five rounds to escape with the decision.

Paul Defends Rogan: ‘You Removed The Wrong Guy’

Jake Paul is coming to the rescue of Joe Rogan after the color commentator was removed from UFC 271’s broadcast team due to a “scheduling conflict.”

While Rogan may have something else to do later tonight (Sat., Feb. 12, 2022) instead of calling the middleweight title rematch between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker, he was confirmed for his commentating duties back on Wednesday. The quick withdrawal has left the MMA world wondering if Rogan was asked to keep a low profile following his controversial racist remarks. Rogan having a “scheduling conflict” is a great way to cover up any sort of conflict between the comedian, UFC, ESPN, and Disney.

The verdict is still out as to why Rogan is no longer calling fights later tonight at UFC 271, but people have begun to speculate. This includes social media influencer and rising professional boxer, Jake Paul. While Paul has done his best to defend MMA fighter pay and challenge UFC president Dana White to do better, he’s now turning his attention to ESPN, Disney, and anyone who thinks Rogan should be removed from his cageside seat.

Paul posted the following message to Twitter late Friday defending Rogan and proclaiming that they “pulled the wrong guy.”

“So ESPN and Disney pull Joe Rogan from the UFC broadcast but stand behind Dana White who calls reporters douche bags, says a female fighter looks like a male fighter in dress and heels, and claims brain damage is part of the gig? You pulled the wrong guy Mr. Chapek.”

It’s pretty clear at this point that Paul will say or do just about anything to get under the skin of White. His efforts have worked in the past, but it’s unknown at this time exactly why Rogan had a “scheduling conflict” and if White had anything to do with it. If Rogan was asked to step away for this weekend’s event in Houston the orders were likely handed down from Disney, which Paul points out.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this entire situation, especially since Rogan is still scheduled to call UFC 272 next month in Las Vegas. If something comes up and he withdraws from that PPV event as well then fight fans who love hearing Rogan call fights may have some cause for concern.

Green ‘Loyal’ To UFC After Promotion Paid For Brother’s Funeral

Most fighters these days have some sort of gripe with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Whether it’s a lack of compensation, unfavorable fight offers, or issues with sponsorships, it seems like a new fighter each week has something negative to say about the biggest MMA promotion in the world.

While most of these issues hold water and need substantial fixing, it’s rare that a fighter publicly supports the UFC machine. That’s exactly what lightweight veteran Bobby Green did earlier this week ahead of his clash with Nasrat Haqparast tomorrow night (Sat., Feb. 12, 2022) at UFC 271 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Green, who has been competing under the UFC banner since 2013, is one of the more seasoned fighters on the UFC roster today. “King” has fought for a laundry list of promotions in the past and is simply happy to compete under the bright lights of the Octagon. You’ve never heard him say a bad word about the promotion and probably never will.

During UFC 271’s media scrum earlier this week Green revealed another reason why he’s become one of the promotion’s most loyal fighters. According to Green, UFC helped pay for his late brother’s funeral arrangements. It’s not something that made it to the MMA headlines, but it’s a behind-the-scenes look at what UFC is willingly to do even when credit isn’t given.

“One thing I didn’t get to share is that my brother that died, I didn’t have enough money to pay for his funeral. The UFC paid for that. That’s why I’m so loyal to them. They were doing things for me that no company’s ever did,” said Green.

“They put (up) the money for my brother’s funeral. And they took care of that. And so I’ll always be loyal to them and thankful for them. Thank you, Dana, thank you Sean (Shelby) for all the things you guys have done.”

Green’s personal life and subsequent hardships have allowed him to appreciate the opportunity to fight for UFC for so many years. “King” is just trying to enjoy every second and show his gratitude along the way, which is clearly shining through during UFC 271’s fight week.

“I tell (the UFC) all the time, ‘You guys don’t have no idea what you’ve done for me. You changed my life,’” Green said. “And I know that everybody else gets it, like, with the pay and all this bla bla bla… I’m just thankful to be here. ‘Cause every day, I’m just going, like, ‘Man, I’m really here! I came to Texas for free! I came to New York for free!’

“I’m just a broke little kid, and I’ll never forget that. I’ll never act like I forgot. I ain’t forgot those homeless nights. I remember what it feels like when it’s three o’clock in the morning and that morning dew starts to hit where everything gets wet.

“You get wet when you’re sleeping out there, too. I’ll never forget those things.”
