Jailton Almeida made a huge Octagon debut earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 5, 2022) at UFC Vegas 47 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the Brazilian fighter stopped light heavyweight Danilo Marques via first-round TKO (punches).

Almeida wasted little time getting inside and grabbing a hold of a tight body lock. The “Contender Series” alum quickly slammed Marques to the canvas and moved into full mount. From there, Almeida blasted Marques with countless hammer fists and punches to the face. Marques kept turning over to survive but he had to deal with Almeida’s rear-naked choke every step of the way. In the end, Almeida kept the pressure up with his hands and forced the referee to step in for the stoppage.

Check out the full fight video highlights below courtesy of UFC/ESPN:

Almeida, 30, has now won his last 10 trips to the cage, including his recent submission win on “Contender Series.” This victory over Marques certainly put the light heavyweight division on notice, but Almeida is going to have better competition to deal with as he starts to climb the rankings.

Phil Rowe scored the biggest win of his MMA career earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 5, 2022) at UFC Vegas 47 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when “The Fresh Prince” stopped veteran welterweight Jason Witt via second-round TKO (punches).

It wasn’t easy for Rowe in the opening round as Witt scored two easy takedowns to gain some valuable control time. Witt went back to his wrestling in the second, but Rowe was a little more defensive this time around and forced the action to stay on the feet. That’s when he landed a beautiful three-shot combination that put Witt down. Rowe piled on a few insurance shots before the referee could break it up and call a stop to the action.

Denys Bondar saw his Octagon debut go up in flames earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 5, 2022) at UFC Vegas 47 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the flyweight newcomer lost to Malcolm Gordon via first-round technical submission (arm injury).

Bondar felt the pressure early on as Gordon locked up a tight armbar attempt. “Psycho” was able to power his way out of the submission, but Gordon certainly did some damage to the arm. Moments later, Gordon executed a takedown attempt along the cage that forced Bondar to post on the same arm. Bondar lasted just a few seconds before his left elbow blew out and he was forced to call it a night. It was a gnarly Octagon debut to say the least.

Check out the final sequence below courtesy of UFC/ESPN:

Bondar, 29, was riding an eight-fight win streak coming into this UFC debut. The flyweight prospect was expected to produce a little more than what he did, but hopefully he can recover and return in dramatic fashion sometime in 2022.

Joe Rogan issued another apology earlier today, this time for racist comments he’s made throughout the years on his popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) color commentator and comedian has become one of the most influential voices in social media and American culture today. His ability to reach millions and millions of people with his Spotify podcast has put Rogan in a position of virtual power. Rogan is able to deliver a message and have it reach a large collection of people.

That said, Rogan understands his current position of influence and overall ability to reach the masses. That’s the reason he recently delivered a social media message to all his fans, supporters and biggest critics after a viral video surfaced, showing racist comments Rogan has made throughout the years. Rogan apologized for the racist comments, explaining that they were taken out of context, while at the same time admitting the n-word never should have left his lips.

Check out the video below courtesy of his Instagram:

“I know that to most people there is no context where a white person is ever allowed to say that word, never mind publicly on a podcast,” Rogan said. “I agree with that now and haven’t said it in years. But, for a long time when I would bring that word up, like if it would come up in conversation, instead of saying the ‘n-word.’ I would just say the word. I thought as long as it was in context people would understand what I was doing.

“I do hope that if anything this can be a teachable moment,” he later added. “I never thought it would be taken out of context and put in a video like that. Now that it is, holy s—t does it look bad.

Perhaps Spotify was attempting to head off an ugly incident like this at the pass months ago, but nothing is ever forgotten nor truly deleted in today’s digital age.

Nevertheless, this is not the first time Rogan has had to issue an apology for comments made on his podcast. Earlier this month, Rogan was accused of spreading misinformation regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, specifically in young people. It caused a social media uproar and UFC’s commentator was compelled to issue an apology.

Rogan’s most recent apology for past racist comments has already surpassed two million views in just six hours at the time of this writing.

Bisping: Motorcycle Accident Changed Strickland’s Fighting Style

Sean Strickland has transformed his fighting career over the past few years and MMA analyst Michael Bisping believes it all traces back to a motorcycle accident in 2018.

Strickland, who meets Jack Hermansson later tonight at UFC Vegas 47 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, always possessed the talent to make a run at UFC gold. However, Strickland struggled to maintain consistency during the first four years of his UFC career and ended up losing big fights to Kamaru Usman, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos.

Things changed for Strickland in late 2018 when a motorcycle accident coming back from the gym nearly ended his fighting career. Strickland was told he’d likely never fight again so it’s impressive to see the comeback he has made. It’s also been interesting to see how Strickland’s fighting style has changed since his accident over three years ago. The time off allowed him to ready his body for a move to middleweight and he put all of the pieces in the right place to forge a 4-0 record since his return in 2020.

Bisping, who has a good relationship with Strickland, recently spoke about the motorcycle accident during an episode of his podcast. The former UFC champion believes Strickland’s state of mind changed after recovering from the incident and it has provided him the freedom to fight without worry.

“He was in a nasty motorcycle accident. Remember that. And it almost ended his career, his leg was f—ked up, he was out for a while, and probably would never fight again,” said Bisping (via BJPenn.com).

“But Sean told me, he said he probably shouldn’t talk about it but he got a ton of money from the accident thru insurance policy’s.

“And the money is what changed his fighting style because if took away the stress of fighting. In the past he was so concerned about how he’s going to make it, it stressed him out.

“But since getting the payment and having money in the bank, he can do what he loves, and the money is good too, and he obviously wants more of it.”

Whatever clicked in Strickland’s mind it has allowed him to become one of the most dangerous middleweight contenders in the world today. If he is able to knock off Hermansson this weekend at UFC Vegas 47 he will have a 5-0 division record heading into the new year and a hot streak that could land him close to a title shot.

That’s incredible to think considering “Tarzan” was nearly forced to retire just a few years ago.
