Charles Oliveira cashed in on his first UFC title shot last night (Sat., May 15, 2021) at UFC 262 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., when “Do Bronx” stopped former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler with a second-round TKO (punches) to claim the vacant lightweight strap.

Chandler cracked Oliveira in the early going and it forced “Do Bronx” to grab a takedown and eventually take Chandler’s back. Chandler defended perfectly and found a way back to his feet. That’s when Chandler caught Oliveira with a series of punches and sent him to the canvas. Chandler followed up with heavy ground-and-pound and nearly ended the fight.

In Round 2, Oliveira came out firing and caught Chandler with a brutal left hook. Chandler tried to recover but Oliveira was on him with a flurry of crisp punches. A barrage of left hands finished Chandler off along the cage and Oliveira walked away with the UFC lightweight title.

Andre Muniz became the first fighter to submit the legendary Jacare Souza earlier tonight (Sat., May 15, 2021) at UFC 262 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., when the young Brazilian scored a brutal first-round armbar that snapped Souza’s arm.

Souza looked good in the early going as he was able to land some strikes along the cage and score a brief takedown. Muniz quickly regrouped and implemented his own wrestling to take Souza down multiple times. The young middleweight found a window to jump on Souza’s back and attempt a rear-naked choke, but Jacare shook him off. That’s when Muniz grabbed a hold of Souza’s arm and sat back. He cranked and Souza’s arm snapped. Muniz let go and the fight was over.

Check out the highlights above courtesy of UFC/ESPN.

No fighter has ever submitted Souza in MMA competition so this win is a massive feather in the cap of Muniz. The brash middleweight said he was the better grappler coming into this fight and most thought he was crazy. In the end, Munoz proved he has some serious ground skills and deserves a run at the division’s top 15.

UFC 262: Andrea Lee v Antonina Shevchenko

Andrea Lee captured the biggest win of her career earlier tonight (Sat., May 15, 2021) at UFC 262 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., when she finished veteran fighter Antonina Shevchenko via second-round submission (triangle armbar).

Lee looked good from the opening bell as she was able to land some sold strikes and go toe-to-toe with Shevchenko, who relied heavily on her Muay Thai clinch. At the start of Round 2 Lee was able to rush in and score top control during a transition to the mat. She worked a triangle choke for nearly three minutes before switching her position and slapping in the triangle armbar with moments left in the round.

Check out the highlights above courtesy of UFC/ESPN.

Lee was 3-3 in UFC competition without any finishes coming into this “Prelims” affair so this was a massive win for her stock in the women’s flyweight division. This submission win should land “KGB” a top 10 opponent her next time as she tries to regain her momentum towards title contention.

UFC 262: Mazany v Cachoeira

Priscila Cachoeira earned another hard-fought knockout win earlier tonight (Sat., May 15, 2021) at UFC 262 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., when the Brazilian fighter put a stop to Gina Mazany via second-round TKO (punches).

This was all Mazany in the early going as she levied her wrestling to score takedown after takedown and really started to take over. Cachoeira kept busy off her back and even cut Mazany in the second round. Mazany started to tire from keeping up such pressure and the referee decided to stand the two women up. From there, Cachoeira was able to stalk Mazany down and land heavy punches along the cage before “Danger” covered up and the referee stepped in.

Check out the highlights above courtesy of UFC/ESPN.

Cachoeira was coming off a first-round knockout finish over Shana Dobson back in February so this victory is a massive win for her at 125 pounds. The 32-year-old certainly needs to work on her takedown defense, but her hands are proving to be deadly when given the chance to throw them.
