Robert Whittaker looked like a man on a mission last night (Sat., Apr. 17, 2021) at UFC Vegas 24 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nev., when the former UFC middleweight champion stifled Kelvin Gastelum for a lopsided main event beatdown (highlights HERE).

In addition to the middleweight headliner, a collection of main card and “Prelims” matchups produced noteworthy action. Check them out below:

  • Middleweight veteran Gerald Meerschaert returned to the win column with a first-round submission finish over Bartosz Fabinski

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker turned in a dominant performance last night (Sat., Apr. 17, 2021) at UFC Vegas 24 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nev., when the No. 1-ranked contender outclassed veteran fighter Kelvin Gastelum for a unanimous decision win.

Whittaker found his range early and landed a massive head kick that buckled Gastelum. The former champion kept busy with more kicks, combinations, and even some takedowns. Gastelum toughened it out and responded with some solid offense in the third round. However, Whittaker didn’t let him control the action for too long and started to bust him up even more.

The fourth and the fifth rounds were all Whittaker. Gastelum needed to land something of significance but “Bobby Knuckles” evaded with speed, countered with attacks from all levels and angles, and closed out one of the more complete performances of his UFC career.

Jake Paul cashed in on another highlight-reel performance last night (Sat., April 17, 2021) live on FITE TV PPV from inside Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta, Ga., when the YouTube star stopped former MMA world champion Ben Askren via first-round TKO (punch).

Paul only closed as a small favorite but quickly made his presence felt inside of the ring. He landed some clean body shots to Askren as “Funky” failed to land shots from his flat-footed stance. With around one minute remaining in the first round Paul launched a vicious right hand over the top that struck Askren in the head and sent him crashing to the canvas.

Askren would return to his feet but the referee didn’t clear him to continue. The fight was stopped and Paul walked away with another impressive knockout finish.

Jake Paul and Ben Askren will finally lock horns inside of the boxing ring later this evening (Sat., April 17, 2021) live on FITE TV from inside Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta, Ga., as the two men headline Triller Fight Club’s newest event.

Despite Paul’s lack of combat experience and this being Askren’s professional boxing debut, this is expecting to be one of the most talked about fights of the year. Paul has done a tremendous job of talking trash and building the hype for this fight while “Funky” has done his part as well.

Fight fans really don’t know what to expect tonight as this fight is already a circus, but it’s going to be watched by over a million people. Not too shabby for Paul, who is making just his third boxing appearance, and for Askren, who is coming out of retirement for a $500,000 payday.

With a loaded PPV card beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET, Paul vs. Askren is likely to begin sometime around 12:30 a.m. ET. The PPV main card will also feature a heavyweight clash between former UFC champion Frank Mir and veteran boxer Steve Cunningham. There’s a chance that Mir is put out early and the rest of the PPV card speeds up.

If things run late (or early) Mania will be sure to provide an updated start time for tonight’s Paul vs. Askren main event. You won’t want to miss it!
