Cody East, who earned his 12th victory in front of UFC president Dana White recently, has been signed to meet Walt Harris at UFC 197, the promotion confirmed.

East (12-1) was filmed for the reality series “Lookin’ for a Fight” featuring White and Matt Serra. The bout will headline the UFC Fight Pass portion of the April 23 card from Las Vegas.

East dominated Kevin Ashland, scoring a 40-second finish with White in attendance. He has stopped 11 of his 12 career wins, while Harris (7-4) sports a record of 0-3 with the UFC.

The card features an interim light heavyweight title match between Jon Jones and Ovince Saint Preux, along with Demetrious Johnson defending his flyweight belt vs. Henry Cejudo.

Yoel Romero Agrees To Six-Month Suspension For Failed Drug Test

yoel-romero-interview

Yoel Romero’s UFC career will resume later this year, as the fighter has agreed to a six-month suspension from the USADA.

Romero (11-1) failed a test for a banned substance following his UFC 194 victory over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The win, his seventh inside the Octagon, likely positioned the former Olympic wrestler for a shot at the UFC middleweight title.

Instead, he will sit on the sidelines through the first six months of 2015.

Below is the complete statement from the USADA:

“Romero’s period of ineligibility began on January 12, 2016, the date on which he was provisionally suspended from competition. Because USADA was able to confirm, based on a negative fight night test result, that Romero’s use of the contaminated supplement began after he competed at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015, his competitive results from that event were not disqualified.

‘This case clearly demonstrates some of the dangers inherent to supplement use,’ said USADA’s Special Advisor on Drugs and Supplements, Dr. Amy Eichner. ‘When considering whether to incorporate supplements into a training plan, it is vitally important that athletes exercise the upmost care in order to avoid making a decision that could endanger their eligibility, reputation or general health and wellness.’

UFC Releases Statement On Female Contender Julianna Pena

Julianna-Pena

The UFC has decided to not schedule Julianna Pena for a fight while the former Ultimate Fighter winner was being investigated over a legal matter in Washington.

On Monday, the promotion confirmed that they are pleased with the report back and will move forward with Pena’s career.

The 26-year-old Pena (7-2) has won all three of her Octagon bouts, including a 2015 decision over Jessica Eye.

A complete statement can be found below:

UFC announced today that an investigation into allegations of assault by UFC competitor Julianna Pena is now complete. Pena recently came to a resolution with the Prosecutor’s Office in Spokane County, Washington. The resolution was thoroughly reviewed by Campbell & Williams, a Las Vegas-based law firm hired by UFC to oversee its investigation into the matter.

UFC elected not to schedule Pena for a bout while the legal proceedings were ongoing. Now that the matter has been resolved, Pena is eligible to return to competition in the UFC and will be scheduled for a bout in the near future.

While UFC is supportive of the resolution of Pena’s criminal matter, Pena acknowledges that her actions as a professional athlete should reflect well of her, the sport of mixed martial arts, and the UFC. Consequently, Pena has volunteered to participate in counseling as a condition for her return to the Octagon.
