Trevor Sherman is the Bizarro James Toney.

Toney, the former world champion boxer making his mixed martial arts debut Saturday at UFC 118, is being trained in MMA by Sherman, and the two couldn’t come across any more differently in interviews. Where Toney is brash and cocky, Sherman is modest. Where Toney expresses nothing but contempt for his opponent, Randy Couture, Sherman shows nothing but respect, even reverence. Where Toney blabbers on at a mile-a-minute pace to the point where it’s hard to understand half of what he says, Sherman is articulate and measured in his comments.

In fact, Sherman and Toney seem to have only one thing in common: They both believe Toney will knock Couture out on Saturday night.

Former WWE star Bobby Lashley lost as a mixed martial artist for the first time Saturday at Strikeforce Houston, as a little-known opponent named Chad Griggs gave Lashley a tough fight and forced Lashley to quit after the second round.

It was a major upset and a major disappointment for Strikeforce, which hoped to establish Lashley as a star in its heavyweight division. Lashley has been exposed as a big, tough-looking guy who can talk a good game but isn’t much of an MMA fighter.

CHICAGO — Zoila Frausto advanced to the semifinals of the Bellator Fighting Championships women’s tournament Thursday night at Bellator 25, easily controlling Jessica Pene to win a unanimous decision.

It wasn’t a particularly exciting fight — certainly nothing like the fireworks of Frausto’s previous fight, a first-round knockout of Rosi Sexton — but it was a dominating performance by Frausto, who won 30-27 on all three judges’ cards. Frausto said afterward that she was disappointed in her own performance and that cutting to 115 pounds had been difficult for her.
