With International Fight Week approaching and the week’s star attraction Conor McGregor carrying the country of Ireland on his back, it only makes sense the UFC would announce a return to Dublin in 2015.
The UFC will officially return to Ireland’s biggest city on October 24, as part of a Fight Night event to be held at the 3Arena (formerly the O2). Tickets go on sale on Sept. 4.
The UFC’s last visit to Dublin — July 2014 for UFC Fight Night 46 — was a raging success for the UFC, featuring the Irish firebrand McGregor against Diego Brandao. That event, which aired on Fight Pass and took place at the O2, featured a number of Irish fighters, such as Cathal Pendred, Patrick Holohan and Neil Seery.
UFC president Dana White vowed to return to Ireland again, and since McGregor has ballooned into one of the promotion’s brightest stars there have been many flirtations to have him headline a major event there in the near future.
No bouts for the Oct. 24 event have yet been announced.
“Ireland has been such an important market to the UFC and we couldn’t let a year go by without delivering another spectacular event for the fans in the capital,” Joe Carr, the UFC’s Vice President of International, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to showcasing both local and international talent at the event and hopefully getting the decibel counter higher this year round.”
