Fan favorite ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung (12-3) will look to make it three wins in a row when he takes on fellow featherweight Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier (12-1) in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV 3 this coming May.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the bout on Friday evening at UFC.com.
“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung takes on Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier in a three-round main event, set for May 15th in Fairfax, VA.
Jung, widely regarded as one of the most exciting fighters in the sport, is coming off the 2nd-fastest KO in UFC history and pulled off the submission of the year for 2011. Poirier is the division’s fastest-rising star, and known for his relentless power punching style, but his last two outings have earned him spectacular submission wins. He remains undefeated at featherweight.
UFC on Fuel TV 3 is expected to take place on May 15, 2012 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia and already includes three other confirmed matches for the card. Bouts include a Light heavyweight fight featuring Thiago Silva vs. Igor Pokrajac, while lightweight Donald Cerrone takes on Yves Edwards, and Tom Lawlor faces Jason MacDonald in a middleweight matchup.
Jung has won two straight, coming off a seven-second knockout of Mark Hominick at UFC 140 in Toronto last December. The win earned ‘The Korean Zombie’ the “Knockout of the Night” bonus. Before that, the Korean fighter evened the score versus Leonard Garcia in a rematch at UFN 24 with a second round submission.
Poirier has won five straight, including four in the Octagon. His most recent victory took place earlier this month, having submitted Max Holloway in the first round with a “Submission of the Night” winning mounted triangle/armbar combo at last weekends UFC 143 event. Previous to that, ‘The Diamond’ earned wins over Pablo Garza, Jason Young and Josh Grispin under the UFC banner.
