‘Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum’ Peak With 719,000 Viewers

Strikeforce Overeem vs WerdumDespite only drawing a reported 7,639 fans into the American Airlines Center this past weekend in Dallas, Texas, ratings for the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum event on Showtime television scored the second highest among all previous Strikeforce events.

The show, which featured the remaining World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament quarterfinals pulled in an average audience of 624,000 viewers, peaking at 719,000 for the June 18 event.

MMAjunkie.com posted the numbers on Tuesday, comparing the numbers to past Strikeforce events showing last February’s “Fedor vs. Silva” coming in first with an average audience of 741,000 viewers, and the August 2009 “Carano vs. Cyborg” show as third place with an average of 576,000 viewers.

Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum featured tournament bouts between Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum, and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers. Both Overeem and Barnett won their respective bouts to move onto the tournament semi-finals.
