A welterweight bout was made official on Monday, as South Korean fighter Dong Hyun Kim ‘The Stun Gun’ (14-1-1, 1NC) and Canadian Sean Pierson (11-5) were announced as opponents for December’s upcoming UFC 141 event.
UFC President Dana White broke the news at UFC.com.
“Two talented welterweights on the comeback trail will face off at UFC 141 when Sean Pierson takes on the ‘Stun Gun’ Dong Hyun Kim.” said UFC President Dana White.
UFC 141 is scheduled to take place on December 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining the event is expected to be a heavyweight matchup between former UFC Champ Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem.
Kim had his sixteen-fight undefeated streak stopped cold in July after suffering a knockout loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 132. ‘The Stun Gun’ was KO’d after Condit landed a flying knee in the first round of their fight. Previous to that, Kim had gone 5-0 (1NC) previously defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 125 last January and Amir Sadollah at UFC 114 in May of 2010.
Pierson also had a winning streak stopped, also by knockout. The Canadian lost by first round knockout to Jake Ellenberger last April at UFC 129, ending a six fight win streak. Previous to the loss, Pierson had made his UFC debut by defeating Matt Riddle at UFC 124 in December of last year.
