On March 3rd, UFC middleweights CB Dollaway and Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz (9-2) will step into the octagon in Louisville, Kentucky as part of the televised card for UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann.
Muñoz will be looking for a war against the “TUF 7″ finalist and expects to get one after beating Dollaway’s coach, Aaron Simpson, in his last fight. The fighter hopes that a victory will lead to better things and is looking to face a top five fighter in 2011.
Muñoz is 4-2 in the UFC making his last octagon appearance in November at UFC 123 against Simpson. He earned a unanimous decision in that fight erasing a split decision loss to the current #1 middleweight contender Yushin Okami at UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko.
Where do you see yourself having an advantage in this one?
I mean, (Dollaway)’s solid everywhere. He’s got good hands, he likes to lead with kicks and he’s good with his chokes as well so he’s tough. I think I’ll have an edge in conditioning and grappling though. He’s come on a lot but I’m looking for a war, this’ll be a barn burner for sure. I beat his coach in my last fight so that should motivate him as well so who knows. I think I’ve got an overall edge and I’m going to come out hard.Do you plan to stand up with C.B. or are you looking to take this down early?
I want to stand up with him for sure. I’ve been doing a lot more Muay Thai recently with Rafael Cordeiro and Abel Nunez and I’m a lot more confident in my stand up. Every time you see me fight you see something different whether it’s punching combinations or kicks or mixing levels or something. I always try to keep learning more and I’m sure that this is going to help make a great fight with C.B.Is there anyone you’d like to fight in 2011 or are you willing to fight whoever the UFC throws at you?
I want a top five opponent in 2011. I just want to fight the best guys out there and whoever the UFC picks for me I’ll be happy to fight.
