A lightweight matchup surfaced this afternoon between UFC fighters Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens (19-6) and “The Ultimate Fighter” season 12 winner Jonathan Brookins (12-3).
MMAjunkie.com was informed of the bout from a source close to the event and noted that both men would fight on the Spike TV televised main card.
Stephens bounced back from a loss by knocking out Marcus Davis at UFC 125 who dropped down to 155 for the first time. The KO earned “Lil Heathen” the “Knockout of the Night” bonus, the third one of his career. The win erased a split decision loss to Melvin Guillard at UFC 119, which subsequently ended a two fight win streak against Sam Stout and Justin Buchholz.
Brookins had been expected to meet John Makdessi at the upcoming UFC 129 event at the end of April but a week later it was revealed that Makdessi was to meet Kyle Watson instead. This will be Brookins first fight since winning season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” The Team GSP fighter earned a unanimous decision over fellow teammate Michael Johnson at the “TUF 12 Finale” last December to earn the six-figure contract.
“The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale” will take place on June 4 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Co-headlining the event will be a lightweight bout between WEC champ Anthony Pettis vs. fan favorite Clay “The Carpenter” Guida.
