UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon (19-6) may have earned himself an extra $80,000 for the “Fight of the Night” award at UFC 123, but he ended up on the losing side of the fight against George Sotiropoulus that night on Nov. 20th.
After a first round dominated by Lauzon, he would come out flat in the second round allowing his opponent to take over and sink a kimura in halfway through the round to take the fight.
Lauzon talked to the BostonHerald.com about what happened in the second round.
“I figured the second round would be more like the first. But getting off the stool for the second round, my legs felt like concrete. I don’t know why or what happened. I felt pretty good at the end of the first, but at the beginning of the second I felt dead. It was like I got worse. Instead of recovering, I got way worse. It had to be an adrenaline dump. I think I pushed a pretty good pace in the first round, but I didn’t feel like it was something that would make me gassed. I felt good at the end of my first walking back to my corner. I was a little winded, but I was OK.”
Lauzon is 1-2 in his last three fights and is 3-2 in his last five. He’s won four straight “Fight Night” awards, two “Fight of the Night” and two “Submission of the Night” honors. His last victory was against Gabe Ruediger by armbar submission at UFC 118 last August.
