Don’t like the way Dana White runs the UFC? Too bad, goofs.
The UFC president will be sticking around at the head of the promotion for at least 10 more years, according to an interview White did with LVSportsBiz Guerrilla Cross Radio. The relevant quote came up during an exchange about former UFC owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta trying to buy an NFL team, something White confirmed he wanted to get in on.
“TMZ just got Lorenzo the other day in New York, and Lorenzo confirmed that they are looking at NFL teams,” White said. “They don’t think anything is available right now. I heard the Panthers, that the Broncos were available, that the Chargers might be up for sale. So we’ll have to see how this plays out.”
“But yeah, if they buy a team, I’m in. I will partner up with them. We looked at something a couple of years ago, not in the NFL, in the NBA. We looked at a team but we got outbid, me and the brothers. I would love to be back in business with them and do something.”
”Obviously I’m very busy and focused over here,” he continued. “But financially I would jump in with those guys. I just signed a new 10 year deal to stay on at the UFC. So in 10 years I can do something with them every day.”
For now White may have to be content with UFC owners Endeavor buying a boxing promotion. Rumors continue to swirl that big boss Ari Emanuel has been hammering out a deal to buy Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, potentially leaving Haymon in a similar power position to White. The fruits of White’s longheld Zuffa Boxing dreams?
Regardless, we’ve got 10 more years of Dana White running the show as president of the UFC. Which is a good thing if you’re a UFC investor that appreciates White’s tightly run ship, but not so good if you’re a fight fan that feels like White’s vendettas stop a lot of cool things from happening. Hey, at least it’s also 10 more years of Dana White roasting teenagers on social media too.
