Aaron Bronsteter of TSN reports that former UFC lightweight Abel Trujillo, 35, was arrested in Broward County, FL and extradited to Douglas County, CO where he was charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child and felony obscenity. He is being held at the Douglas County jail in Castle Rock, CO on a $10,000.

In Colorado, felony sexual exploitation of a child is defined as “possessing, producing or distributing sexually explicit material (pornography) involving a child under 18.” (per TSN).

Trujillo’s charge of felony obscenity is defined as committing, “wholesale promotion of obscenity to a minor if, knowing its content and character, such person wholesale promotes to a minor or possesses with intent to wholesale promote to a minor any obscene material.”

This is not the first time Trujillo has been charged with a serious crime.

According to a Cage Potato article from 2012 (archived here), Trujillo twice pleaded guilty to domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. In both those incidents the victim was reported to be the mother of Trujillo’s child. Trujillo reportedly pleaded guilty in 2007 to obstruction of an emergency communication.

Despite Trujillo’s convictions being publicly known in 2012, Trujillo continued to compete for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). From December 2012 to December 2017 Trujillo was given 11 opportunities by the UFC. Those opportunities included fights versus Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, and James Vick.

Trujillo’s last fight was against John Makdessi at 2017’s UFC on FOX: Lawler vs. do Anjos card in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Trujillo was scheduled to face former UFC and Bellator fighter Will Brooks at Battlefield FC 2 on July 27th, but he has since been replaced by Gleison Tibau (h/t Sherdog).
