Three Amigos: What have you been doing with your time lately?

Al Iaquinta: I’ve been really getting into this real estate thing. I’ve got a bunch of buyers that I’m showing houses to…it’s really interesting to me. I’ve got a lot of learning to do, and right now, it’s kind of like when I first started in MMA. I didn’t care about anything else. The only thing I wanted to do was learn everything about the sport. I would sleep, breathe and eat MMA.

Now, I’m kind of doing the same thing with real estate. I’m going to seminars, and anywhere I can to be able to pick someone’s brain or learn something. It’s definitely got all my interest, and I’ve been doing a lot of that.

Three Amigos: Are we going to see the next NY real estate tycoon in Al Iaquinta?

Al Iaquinta: You know, I’m working towards it. It’s my goal right now. I always thought that to become the best fighter, you’re gonna make a lot of money, but there’s a lot more that goes into it. There’s marketability kind of stuff and so many other different factors. If I just focus my goal on making money—I mean, I was ranked Number 10 in the world in fighting. If I were ranked Number 10 in the world in real estate, I’d be way, way better off.

Three Amigos: What would it take to mend the fences here?

Al Iaquinta: A lot of the media put this like it’s me vs. the UFC, but it really isn’t like that. I had a problem with the things a couple people said and did, but for the most part, it’s the UFC is running their business, and that’s cool. I’ve got to look at myself as a business, and right now, it just wasn’t making sense for me to fight for what they wanted me to fight for, so I’m doing other things. It’s not like I’m trying to take down the UFC, and I don’t think they suck or anything like that. There’s a lot of people in the UFC I’ve got great relationships with.
