In a recent interview with MMA Junkie Radio, “The Lioness” discussed her divisional worth and the opportunity to fight for the title on the biggest card of 2016 (and possibly ever).
“I think I’m the only one that deserves this in the division right now,” said Nunes. “I’m putting work in the cage and showing good fights and finishes. This is the best way to show everybody the contender, and I did.”
While Nunes has yet to earn the notoriety of a Rousey or Holm, she has recorded a promotional record of 5-1 since making her debut in 2013, losing to only Zingano at UFC 178. Not to mention the fact that four of her Octagon victories have come by way of either knockout, TKO, or submission. It’s safe to say she has put the work in to deserve a shot at gold.
“It’s cool of Miesha to give me the opportunity,” added Nunes. “She did it the right way. All the time there’s a rematch, a rematch. The other girls are never going to get the opportunity. If it’s only between Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate, we are always going to be waiting. I think this is the best way.”
