Another fight has been lost heading into UFC Vegas 14 later tonight (Sat., Nov. 14, 2020) live on ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a middleweight scrap between Eryk Anders and Antonio Arroyo has been pulled from the main card.
This is according to Arroyo’s cornerman Marcelo Alfaya, who revealed on social media that Anders was “sick and went to the hospital” following a botched weight cut on Friday (via MMA Fighting). Anders ended up weighing in 1.5 pounds over the middleweight limit.
Anders, 33, was hoping to get back into the 185-pound win column after losing a decision to Krzysztof Jotko back in May. The former LFA middleweight champion has struggled in his last six trips to the Octagon, producing a less than desirable 2-4 record. Still, Anders is a skilled veteran who has shown glimpses of his top 15 potential. This is the first time he’s missed weight, but maybe it’s a sign he should move back up to light heavyweight.
Arroyo, 31, was also trying to get back into the win column after coming up short against Andre Muniz in his UFC debut one year ago. After capturing back-to-back wins on Dana White’s Contender Series to secure his UFC contract many were excited to see what Arroyo can do as a member of the middleweight pack. The Brazilian finisher will have to wait a little longer for his sophomore performance.
UFC Vegas 14 will now proceed with 10 total bouts.
