Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White announced the much anticipated rematch between middleweight champion Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva (31-4) and Chael Sonnen (27-11-1) during the post-fight press conference for UFC 143.
White noted that the agreements were made during Saturday’s fight card.
Silva and Sonnen will meet this June in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which is also expected to host the coaches bout for “TUF Brazil” between Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva.
Despite what the No. 1 contender has been telling the media, White insists that Silva was never an obstacle in putting the fight together saying “Chael’s full of shit. You guys need to stop listening to Chael.”
Silva and Sonnen faced each other in August 2010 in the main event of UFC 117. Sonnen would dominate the fight through four-and-a-half rounds until ‘The Spider’ would catch him with a triangle choke in the final frame to end the fight.
Since then Sonnen has been campaigning hard for a rematch and was given a No. 1 contender bout versus Mark Munoz as part of the UFC on FOX 2 card. Munoz ended up injured and was replaced by Michael Bisping, who lost a controversial unanimous decision to Sonnen.
