Announcing roles for Mike Goldberg, Mauro Ranallo revealed ahead of Bellator 180

The summer sizzler known as Bellator 180: “Sonnen vs. Silva” heads to Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., this Saturday night (June 24, 2017). Free fights start at 8 p.m. ET on Spike TV, headlined by Phil Davis defending the Light Heavyweight title against Ryan Bader. The pay-per-view (PPV) portion then begins at 10 p.m. ET with a main event between bitter Light Heavyweight rivals, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva.

The recent signing of Mike Goldberg and Mauro Ranallo and departure of Sean Grande left questions about who would fulfill what roles at the historic venue this weekend. Fortunately, Bellator MMA recently clarified about who would be doing what and when.

For the Spike TV broadcast, Goldberg and long-time Bellator announcer Jimmy Smith will share the commentary duties. Later in the evening, the announcing team will switch to Mauro Ranallo on play-by-play and Smith on color commentary, with Goldberg “anchoring the desk” and continuing to be a visible presence on PPV.

Goldberg and Smith are also set to call the “Prelims” undercard matches on Bellator.com at 6 p.m. ET, where they will be joined on the broadcast by host Jenn Brown, fighter-turned broadcaster Brendan Schaub and long-time Lightweight star Josh “The Punk” Thomson for analysis of the Bellator 180 card throughout the evening’s early action.

And just in case you were wondering, veteran in-ring announcer “The Voice” Michael C. Williams will be introducing each and every one of the fights in the cage that night. He may have a bit of a wait before the main event, though, as Dave Navarro plans to rock the crowd.
