UFC lightweights Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (13-1) and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (28-11) will headline The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale in June.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that both fighters would meet but did not mention a date for the bout. MMAjunkie.com has confirmed that both men will serve as the main event for the “TUF 13 Finale.”
Despite being promised a UFC lightweight title shot after winning the WEC belt, Pettis didn’t want to sit on the sidelines waiting for the winner of the third meeting between champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. The fight with Guida will mark “Showtime’s” UFC debut, he enters the bout on a four fight win streak going 5-1 in the WEC. His last appearance was against Ben Henderson at WEC 53 in December, a fight he won by unanimous decision earning the WEC lightweight title as well as the “Fight of the Night.”
Guida has won his last three and is 6-2 in his last eight fights. The lightweight stopped Takanori Gomi earlier this month at UFC 125 by submitting the Japanese fighter in the first round. The victory earned him the “Submission of the Night” bonus, his second in three fights. Guida fought twice in 2010 as part of that three fight streak, submitting both opponents Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 117 and Shannon Gugerty at UFC on Versus 1.
The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale is not official, but the event is expected to take place on June 4th at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
