Anthony Pettis: ‘Jose Aldo is still Jose Aldo’

Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway have differing opinions on current 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.

Max Holloway has been saying the same stuff about UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo for months now. He’s been calling him out on his “p**sy-itis” and saying that he’s the vaccine. It was no different at today’s UFC 206 conference call. Holloway fights Anthony Pettis for an interim featherweight title in the main event of that show, and unlike Holloway, Pettis still has a lot of respect for Aldo and doesn’t think a loss to Conor McGregor has diminished him (transcribed by MMA Fighting):

“For me, Jose Aldo is still Jose Aldo, man. Everybody loses. Even the greatest lose sometimes. Even after 13 seconds, what he did with Conor McGregor, he still has the history that he had. He’s a dominant champ for a long time. It’s not like all of a sudden he sucks because he got knocked out by Conor McGregor.”

Holloway responded with a little more tact, but still doesn’t seem to like Aldo very much:

“I ain’t friends with the guy. I don’t follow him on social media or whatever. I don’t talk to him, I don’t retweet stuff he posts or have conversations with the guy. So who knows what’s going through his mind? Only his coaches and only himself. But we’ll see what happens. We’ll see what happens after Dec. 10 and we’ll find out. We’re going to go out there, you guys are going to get a great fight, and after Dec. 10, we’ll see what’s up with that guy’s mind.”

UFC 206 goes down in the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on December 10th, and the winner almost definitely will meet Aldo in early 2017 to unify the belts.
