Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski doesn’t intend to retire any time soon.

Andrei Arlovski has been a professional MMA fighter for 20 years, and he has aspirations of topping out at 25 years.

The former UFC heavyweight champion recently spoke to MMAjunkie ahead of his UFC Fort Lauderdale bout against Augusto Sakai, and addressed his future in the sport, including aspirations of becoming a titleholder once more.

“Best-case scenario, (I want to keep doing this for) maybe four, five more years,” Arlovski said. “We’ll see. I still have, like, at age 40, I’m training more than I used to train when I was 25. Every morning, when I wake up in camp, I remember what I want. I want to be champion of the world again.

“I got a few losses right now, I think it’s like 50-50, but fact is I lost a couple of fights and I’m just in the beginning of my way again.”

Arlovski (27-17, 2 NC) last fought at UFC 232 against Walt Harris, losing a lackluster decision. The result was overturned to a no contest after Harris failed a California State Athletic Commission drug test. Nevertheless, he has just two wins in his last ten fights. He’s still #15 in the UFC’s official heavyweight rankings.

Seriously, he is.

Still, Arlovski insists his “body feels good, so why not?”

It is heavyweight, after all. His ideal want of his career to extend another four-to-five years isn’t all that crazy considering his piers like Josh Barnett, Fedor Emelianenko, Frank Mir, etc. are still competing. It is admittedly highly unlikely that he’ll still be a UFC fighter if he does keep fighting until 2024.

UFC Fort Lauderdale is set for April 27th on ESPN.
