It seems like the past week of mixed martial arts (MMA) action has produced some of the worst injuries you’ll ever see.
First it was this stomach-churning slicer and now we have women’s bantamweight fighter Julia Avila breaking her finger in devastating fashion last night (Fri., May 4, 2018) at Invicta FC 29 in Kansas City, Missouri.
The injury, which can be seen above, happened just moments into the first round. Avila’s opponent, Marciea Allen threw a kick up that awkwardly landed on Avila’s left hand. The impact broke and split Avila’s finger, causing her bone to protrude out.
Pretty gruesome if you ask me.
As a result of the injury, the fight was stopped and Allen was awarded the 49-second TKO finish. It is the first loss of Avila’s professional and amateur career, while Allen walks away with her fourth-straight win and first TKO victory since 2013.
Avila took to Instagram following the bout to discuss her broken finger and gives fight fans a close and personal look.
We’ve seen worse injuries than this, but this one is still pretty gnarly.
Hopefully the 29-year-old can quickly recover from this injury because she was expected to make some noise in Invicta’s 135-pound division.
