B.J. Penn’s team called the allegations “misleading, hurtful, and false.”
It was recently reported that B.J. Penn has an active restraining order against him, with his estranged partner alleging that there were threats, verbal and physical abuse, and sexual coercion during the course of their relationship.
The former UFC champion’s team has since issued a statement via his official website, calling the allegations “misleading, hurtful and false.”
“BJ is in a highly-contested child custody case involving his two young daughters. The order of protection has made serious allegations against BJ. The allegations are so, misleading, hurtful and false that any further comment by BJ or about BJ would cause more damage to the well-being of his children and potentially further inflame the pending custody proceedings. BJ and his family ask that you respect their privacy at this very difficult time.”
While there were very disturbing details and allegations on the filed documents, Penn’s attorney also previously called the records as “incomplete information.”
According to the original report, the temporary restraining order and petition for an order of protection was first obtained on October 2018. The order was then extended after a hearing last February, and will expire on October 2021.
Penn competed in the UFC against Ryan Hall in between those two time periods. He is also currently scheduled to face Clay Guida next month at UFC 237.
