A bantamweight matchup for the upcoming UFC 135 event was made official today by the Ultimate Fighting Championship between Norifumi ‘Kid’ Yamamoto (18-4, 1NC) and Damacio ‘The Angel of Death’ Page (15-6).
Dana White confirmed today that Damacio Page and ‘Kid’ Yamamoto have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 135 in September. Expect fireworks – “These are two of the most aggressive sluggers in the always-exciting bantamweight division,” said White.
UFC 135 is expected to take place on Sept. 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. One bout already announced for the event is a welterweight matchup between former UFC champ Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez. The event could also host one, or possibly two title bouts, featuring lightweight champ Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard, and/or a light heavyweight title bout between Jon Jones vs. Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.
Yamamoto will look for his first win in the UFC, having dropped his debut match to Demetrious Johnson by unanimous decision last February at UFC 126. ‘Kid’ has run into a bit of a skid going 1-3 in his last four fights, after a stellar fourteen fight win streak was halted back in May of 2009. Thirteen of Yamamoto’s eighteen victories have come via knockout (TKO or KO).
Page also has his back to the wall having lost his last two fights. The former WEC bantamweight made his UFC debut last March on the UFC on Versus 3 show, losing to Brian Bowles by first round guillotine submission. His last WEC bout took place in November at the WEC 52 show, losing to Demetrious Johnson by guillotine submission in the third round.
