A featherweight fight appears to be set between former WEC veterans Bart ‘Bartimus’ Palaszewski (36-15) and Diego Nunes (17-3) for this September’s upcoming UFC on FX 5 event.
News of the fight was confirmed by MMAWeekly.com on Friday.
UFC on FX 5 is expected to take place on September 7, 2012 at the 19,000-seat Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the first identified for the card.
Palaszewski is 1-1 so far in the UFC and is 1-2 in his last three matches. ‘Bartimus’ competed last February at UFC 144 in Japan, losing a decision to Hatsu Hioki at the event. The victory came this past October as part of UFC 137, and ended with a knockout victory for Palaszewski who finished Tyson Griffin at 2:45 of the first. Griffin failed to make weight for the bout, with both men agreeing to a 148-lbs catchweight match. The win also earned Palaszewski the “Knockout of the Night” bonus.
Nunes holds the same record as his opponent, having lost a decision to Dennis Siver in April at UFC Sweden. The defeat puts the Brazilians record at .500 in the Octagon since debuting in January 2011. Nunes last win was over Manvel Gamburyan at UFC 141 in December, a bout that had been scheduled for UFC 135 in September but was rescheduled after both men fell to the injury bug.
