Victorious lightweight headliner Eddie Alvarez led the disclosed payroll for Saturday’s Bellator 106 event, taking home a hefty $160,000 check for his heavily-anticipated title challenge against Michael Chandler, according to figures released by the California State Athletic Commission.
Similar to their first meeting, Alvarez and Chandler battled back and forth throughout the length of their explosive championship contest. Unlike 2011, however, this time it was Alvarez who emerged with the belt, eking out a narrow split decision over Chandler ($95,000).
Fellow Bellator champion Daniel Straus and inaugural Fight Master champion Joe Riggs also pocketed notable paychecks for their work. Straus earned $40,000 for his successful title challenge against Pat Curran ($40,000), while Riggs took home a huge $100,000 payday for his decision victory over Mike Bronzoulis ($5,000).
Also of note, former Strikeforce champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and his triumphant rival, Emanuel Newton, earned a reported purse of $10,000 and $20,000 respectively for their interim light heavyweight title tilt, which saw Newton once again upset Lawal.
Bellator 106 took place take place November 2, 2013 at the Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, CA, and aired live on Spike TV. The entire Bellator payroll can be seen below, although these figures do not represent a fighter’s total earnings.
