It took Bellator’s featherweight champion Daniel Straus a couple of tries, some extra sweating and a haircut to make weight, but he finally did for his Bellator 112 clash with Pat Curran. Straus cut off his trademark dreadlocks to make weight on the first attempt, but still came in at 145.5. He was able to make weight on his second attempt.
Curran, meanwhile, came in at 144.7 on his first attempt and looked ready to go.
“This is the best I’ve ever felt, and the best camp I’ve ever had, and you’re going to see a monster tonight for sure,” the challenger Curran said. This fight will the be third between Curran and Straus, the first happening at XFO 29 in 2009. They met last November at Bellator 106 in Long Beach, when Straus ended Curran’s run as the Bellator champion. Curran had previously rattled off six wins in a row.
After Straus had cut his hair, disrobed and still came up short on making weight on the first attempt, he seemed in no mood for formalities.
“Hey man, I just got a lot on my mind,” he said at the scale. “I’m ready to kill this dude.”
Straus-Curran III will headline Bellator 112 on Friday night at The Venue at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, the same arena that Curran won the featherweight title in against Joe Warren in two years ago.
