On the heels of a busy weekend for Bellator MMA, with back-to-back events airing on Paramount Network and exclusively on DAZN from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., there’s more good Bellator news with word of a “super fight” in the works.

Featherweight champion “Pitbull” Patricio Freire (28-4), currently on a three-fight win streak, will move up to 155 pounds for a card tentatively billed as Bellator 221, which will take place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. (just outside Chicago), on May 11, 2019. Ariel Helwani reports that Freire will do so to challenge reigning Lightweight champ “Iron” Michael Chandler (19-4).

Chandler is on a three-fight win streak in his own right, having recently bested Brent Primus in a dominant five-round performance to regain the title Primus took from him at Madison Square Garden back in 2017. Meanwhile, Freire’s win streak started with regaining the title from Daniel Straus, seemingly putting the exclamation point on one of Bellator’s longest feuds with their fourth fight.

Bellator 221 is also expected to feature Douglas Lima against Michael Page in a Welterweight Grand Prix semifinal match, as well as A.J. McKee facing former Featherweight champion Pat Curran.
