Rants against the UFC by fighters who were formerly under Zuffa’s employ are nothing new.
Sadly, nor are questionable comments in the MMA community about gays and lesbians.
Leave it up to War Machine to combine the two.
The convicted felon, ex-pornographic film star and current Bellator welterweight fighter recently became the latest to rage against the machine. Speaking to Bloody Elbow’s Steph Daniels, the former Jon Koppenhaver took a standard rant about fighter pay down a bizarre road.
“The UFC is not going to give up any extra money if they don’t have to,” Machine said. “They have so much power. God forbid if Dana White was gay. If Dana White was gay, he’d have fighters sucking d—. I guaranf—tee it. If he was gay, every fighter would have to suck his d— to fight. That’s how much power they have. There would be dudes that fight the toughest guys in the world that would get on their knees and suck d— to get into the UFC. It’s the truth. We’re just lucky that Dana White’s not gay.”
Machine went beyond the often-voiced complaints about fighter pay and took it in another direction, aiming his venom at the fighters at the top of the food chain, whom he feels could make a difference for those on the rest of the card.
“All it takes is for Jon Jones or anyone of these big name guys to be backstage and go, ‘You know what? I’m not gonna f— fight tonight,” he said. “I ain’t gonna fight until you guys sit down here, right now, and come to an agreement to pay us fairly.’ I guarantee you what will happen is that all the sudden, we’re going to get paid fairly. It just takes one of these guys that has the power to do it. They need to step up and have some balls. One of these big name guys does it, and it’s a wrap.”
The San Diego-based fighter recently made his Bellator debut, defeating veteran Blas Avena via first-round TKO on June 19. He first gained national notice as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter season six, and earned both KO and Fight of the Night bonuses for his comeback win over Jared Rollins at the TUF 6 Finale in Las Vegas. But he was released from the UFC after a first-round loss to Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 84.
Machine is 8-2 since his UFC release, but the outspoken fighter has been best known for his legal troubles. He served a year in San Diego county jail after a felony assault conviction, and recently several more time in Nevada on another assault charge.
