The UFC has just released the official poster for UFC 239, their big International Fight Week card on July 6th that features Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos and Amanda Nunes vs. Holly Holm. As usual, it’s a bit underwhelming. For years the UFC graphic design department has been getting dragged for sticking to the same old formula with minor tweaks. UFC 239’s tweak seems to be a WhatsApp inspired background. Thank you UFC, very cool.

Welterweight contender Ben Askren wasn’t impressed with the poster either, but for purely self-involved reasons.

”Put the main event on that poster and you will sell some more tickets!” he joked.

At this point the people running UFC’s social accounts have gotten used to Askren’s digs and have started playing along.

Askren is set to face Jorge Masvidal in what’s turning into quite the grudge match. Masvidal spent a good portion of his three hour appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast ripping Askren a new asshole every which way, while Ben has mostly taken his foot off the smack talk gas pedal after pressuring “Gamebred” into signing a contract to fight.

It’s a classic striker vs. grappler match up with both men being absolute beasts at what they do. And while they may not be on the poster, we have a feeling their bout is going to have a lot of people talking by the time we make it to July.
