RIO DE JANEIRO — Bethe Correia wants a shot at UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, and she’s willing to fight every woman in the UFC roster to prove she’s the No. 1 contender.
“Whoever they want. If I have to fight every woman in the UFC to earn my shot at the champion, I will,” Correia told the media in Brazil. “I will fight for this opportunity. I proved with my performances that it’s time for me to fight the champion. I have a history with her, and that made the UFC fans to look at me with different eyes.”
Miesha Tate recently called Correia out on Twitter, and the Brazilian is open to facing the former title contender next inside the Octagon. However, Correia believes that Tate called her out to get attention from media and fans.
“I don’t know why she put herself into this story,” Correia said. “I think she saw all the attention I was receiving. Tate had two chances against Ronda and lost both twice. She saw that I’m closer to a title shot, so she wants to use that attention.
“I don’t run from a challenge. The whole world knows who I am. Tate’s looking for trouble, and she found it. I will fight her if that’s what the UFC wants, and I will beat her in a way that the whole world knows that Rousey has to be next.”
Undefeated in MMA with nine professional victories, Correia has never won a fight via submission, and she’s aware of Tate’s submission skills. However, “Pitbull” is hoping that Tate backs her words inside the cage.
“Tate does have good grappling, but she challenged me to a stand-up war. I hope she doesn’t run away,” Correia said. “I won’t run away from the ground because I train a lot of jiu-jitsu and judo, and I believe in my skills, but I love to put my hand on someone’s face, especially when someone challenges me. Tell her to find a better mouthpiece. I hope she comes here to brawl.”
