Former five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski is set to face Bob Sapp in a freak-show match for KSW on May 12. Their super-heavyweight bout will take place in Lodz, Poland.
Both fighters have questionable records in MMA with the debate now centred on who is the worse fighter.
Pudzianowski makes a strong case. He entered MMA as Poland’s answer to Brock Lesnar and was quickly snapped up by that country’s KSW promotion.
With the weight of KSW behind him, he made suspiciously quick work of Marcin Najman before winning a decision against Yusuke Kawaguchi in a match where “Pudzian” looked exhausted after the first round. However, as soon as he stepped outside the KSW umbrella, he was dispatched by Tim Silvia.
A freak-show return to KSW against a man they call “Butterbean” followed and then a loss to Englishman James Thompson. In the rematch, Thompson schooled Pudzianowski in MMA before the judges curiously decided to award the Pole the win. Amid allegations of match-fixing, KSW later ruled the fight a no-contest and blamed a judging error.
With such an illustrious legacy behind him, the promoters thought best to match him up against Sapp; a man with an 11-match losing streak to his credit. Yes, that’s losing streak, although he is coming into this match with a “W” against Tofan Pirani.
Pirani had knocked Sapp down three times before mistiming a kick and injuring a leg. Sapp wins by self-inflicted TKO.
Sapp is a walking punchline, in every sense of the word, but at least “The Beast” is self-aware enough to take himself as seriously as he takes his MMA career—which is not at all. Check out his self-made promo for the Pudzianowski fight.
So, who will win in the showdown between these two fighters? More to the point, who cares?
