Khabib Nurmagomedov continued his perfect MMA career earlier today (Sat., Sept. 7, 2019) at UFC 242 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, submitting Dustin Poirier to retain his UFC lightweight title.
As expected, Khabib’s main event dominance captured the attention of the MMA community as a whole. However, the most notable reaction came from Khabib’s arch rival, former UFC champion Conor McGregor. McGregor — who has not competed inside of the Octagon since Nurmagomedov choked him out at UFC 229 in Oct. 2018 — didn’t have much to say following the Russian’s win, but did allude to an anticipated rematch with “The Eagle.”
Book my rematch for Moscow.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) September 7, 2019
“Book my rematch for Moscow,” wrote McGregor via Twitter.
Of course, McGregor is unlikely to land a rematch with Khabib unless he’s able to pick up a win beforehand. The Irish superstar hasn’t captured victory in any form since taking out Eddie Alvarez back in 2016. And with top contender Tony Ferguson deserving a lightweight title shot McGregor’s chances seem bleak.
However, once “Notorious” is healthy from a bum hand all bets are truly off. UFC isn’t sure how long both fighters will continue to compete so booking a lucrative reboot now may be in the cards.
After all, Khabib has already mentioned his wish to rematch McGregor in front of a Moscow crowd.
