Ray Borg missed weight for his UFC Philadelphia showdown against Casey Kenney last weekend on ESPN, a rather surprising turn of events when you consider he previously competed at 125 pounds and should have sailed into bantamweight without fail.

I guess slipping in the bathtub and cracking his dome wasn’t part of the gameplan.

“It sounds crazy, and it sounds (expletive) up because, as I took a step, I took a step and I slipped, and I hit my head on the bathtub,” Borg told The MMA Hour (via MMA Junkie). “We were at the hospital ’til about 3 a.m., I was just exhausted, so we stayed up until 5:30 in the morning to cut as much weight as we can in 2 1/2 hours.”

Complicating matters was the fact that Borg’s hotel did not have a steamroom or sauna, so his team was forced to make its own contraption using the bathroom. Why they chose to stay at a hotel without adequate facilities was not explained, but I can assure you I’ve switched hotels for much less, like that time the Westin only had Coors Lite on tap.

See ya!

“I was just utterly exhausted, so I took about an hour-and-a-half nap, woke back up and just tried to cut that weight,” Borg continued. “I’m dead. I’m literally dead. I just had an hour of sleep in the last 34 hours, so it was my choice to not proceed with cutting the weight. I was just physically and mentally exhausted from the night before.”

Borg, who came in at 137.75 and surrendered 20-percent of his purse, lost a mildly controversial decision to Kenney after three rounds of action (more on that here). That dropped the former title contender to 11-4 in what marked “The Tazmexican Devil’s” first appearance since falling to Demetrious Johnson back in late 2017.
