Condit vs Kim headshots

Both UFC welterweight fighters Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit (26-5) and South Korean Dong Hyun ‘The Stun Gun’ Kim (14-0-1) both feel strongly that a win over the other should earn them a title shot against champion Georges St-Pierre.

Condit and Kim are scheduled to meet this Saturday, July 2, on the main card of UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Condit has won his last three fights, and is 11-1 in his last twelve. He stopped Dan Hardy last October at UFC 120 by first round knockout and came back to stop Rory MacDonald in the third round by TKO at UFC 115 one year ago.

Speaking to MMAjunkie.com, Condit explained that “If I finish Kim,” he plans on calling for a title shot against St-Pierre for his next fight.

While Kim, who is so far undefeated in his pro-career, having won three straight since a split decision loss to Karo Parisyan was declared a “No Contest” in January of 2009, is 5-0 (1NC) with the top promotion. He earned decisions over Nate Diaz at UFC 125, Amir Sadollah at UFC 114, and TJ Grant at UFC 100.

Speaking to the press during the UFC 132 open workouts Kim explained, through an interpreter, that he’d like to fight for the title next with a win over Condit, but is willing to wait one more fight.

“He’d like to fight GSP right after this fight, but he thinks that he’d probably have to fight one more fight. But he really doesn’t want to think anything past this fight (with Condit).”

So which fighter do you think is more deserving of a title shot? I think either fighter would have to earn a decisive win over the other to get the next shot at the 170 lb title.
