Boxing champ criticizes Conor McGregor: ‘He tapped out a bit too easy’

WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders speaks about the outcome of UFC 196’s main event bout.

Right after his first UFC loss at UFC 196 in the hands of Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor was expectedly met by a huge wave of criticism.

The bulk of the backlash, despite his classy, respectable demeanor during post-fight interviews was still mainly because of the amount of trash he has been talking throughout his blitzing UFC career.

Many were particularly offended by his tirades about Diaz being a Jiu-Jitsu instructor to children, among them being UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra.

The loud buzz surrounding Conor McGregor’s name seemed to have transcended through the entire world of prizefighting. Most recently, WBO middleweight world champion Billy Joe Saunders had something to say about the manner of which UFC 196 ended, with Irishman on the losing end.

“Notorious? He tapped out in three seconds! I think he tapped out a bit too easy,” Saunders said in a Boxingscene report. “I’ve been choked out for longer down the pub!”

Saunders is not the first world champion boxer to share his comments about the fight. Two days after the said event, heavyweight champion Tyson Fury also offered his two cents. And like Saunders, he was highly critical about how McGregor handled himself in the fight.

Fury even managed to re-ignite this age-old, passé conversation.
