Boxing odds: Golovkin and Gonzalez both favored to win on PPV Saturday night

Both the Big Drama Show and the Little Drama Show are betting favorites Saturday night, but there may be an underdog pick worth taking.

On Saturday night, undefeated top 5 pound for pound fighter Gennady Golovkin takes on Daniel Jacobs live on PPV for the Middleweight title. With three days until fight time, here are the latest odds, courtesy of Bovada:

Gennady Golovkin -800
Daniel Jacobs +475

Jacobs is seen by many analysts as the toughest test out there for GGG, but the odds only somewhat reflect that. For his September fight with Kell Brook, Golovkin ended up a closer favorite at -650. He won that fight via stoppage in the 5th round. But outside of the Brook fight, this is the closest we have seen Golovkin during his big HBO run, with most of his other fights in the -1100 to -2000 range. The notable exception there was last year’s two round destruction of Dominic Wade that saw GGG as a -10,000 favorite.

In the night’s other featured fight, Roman Gonzlez returns to face Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

Roman Gonzalez -2250
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai +950

Gonzlaez is considered by many to be the top pound for pound fighter in the world, but between the death of his long-time trainer, his move up in weight, and some recent less-dominating performances, there is some question out there if he is still at his absolute best. For betting, it’s a shame that Gonzalez is so heavily favored when the underdog odds on Sor Rungvisai are not nearly as wide, but if you are feeling adventurous, that’s an underdog worth taking a swing on.

And for those still interested, Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor odds remain the same, with McGregor at a mildly ridiculous -850 vs. McGregor at +525.
