Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera (12-6, 1NC) will reportedly return to the UFC’s heavyweight division after nine straight bouts competing at light heavyweight.
According to MMAjunkie.com Vera will take on ‘Big’ Ben Rothwell (32-9) this August as part of the upcoming UFC 164 event.
UFC 164 is expected to take place on August 31, 2013 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This bout is the first match rumored for the promotions return to Wisconsin.
Vera had his last fight at heavyweight back in June 2008 when he lost to Fabricio Werdum by TKO at UFC 85. It was the second straight loss for ‘The Truth’ who lost a decision to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77 in his prior match. Vera’s last Octagon appearance took place in August 2012 at UFC on FOX 4 which ended with a fourth round TKO loss to Mauricio Rua.
Rothwell is 1-2 in his last three matches, losing by submission to Gabriel Gonzaga last January at UFC on FX 7. Prior to that ‘Big Ben’ stopped former TUF 10 competitor Brendan Schaub cold via knockout at UFC 145 earning the “Knockout of the Night” bonus. The other loss on Rothwell’s recent record was a decision loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 135 back in September 2011.
