A day after Strikeforce welterweight Nick Diaz was pulled from his UFC title fight with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137, and replaced by Carlos Condit, the Stockton, California native has been re-booked on the same event against a new opponent.
Diaz will now face former two division champ B.J. Penn in the co-main event of the Las Vegas event. Penn was originally scheduled to meet Condit at UFC 137.
UFC President Dana White Tweeted (@danawhite) the message on Thursday night. White also noted that he talked with Diaz for over an hour on Wednesday night and that he had no voice left.
No mention was made, but the Diaz vs. Penn bout would almost certainly be for a number one contender position.
UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Condit is scheduled to take place on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
